So would you rather work with someone who was really intelligent but really lazy,or would you rather work with someone who was very hard working but really stupid?

Working with the smart lazy person might be good because he can think of easier ways to get the job done faster but you'd have to do all the work

The stupid person would most likely make your job harder because you'd have to tell him what to do and maybe do the work over if he messes it up..

.. what do you think?

Personally, I'd rather work with the hard working person because lazy people irritate me because I would rather work now for a shorter amount of time instead of slack off and work for a longer time.

I am the smart and lazy guy. I bet if I had a clone of myself we'd make a great team. Maybe.

I would rather have the lazy smart guy. If the stupid guy is working with you he will be a. annoying b. stupid obvioulsy, and c. possibly make mistakes that would make your job even harder/longer. While the lazy smart guy can help you out when you need it. Maybe he wont be an over achiever but lazy doesnt mean you wont do a job when asked to do something.

Let's see.....

automate as many system tasks as possible.
need to only modify a few environment variables in order to make applications to work on diffferent systems....

I don't call that lazy, i call that efficient.

I'd rather have the lazy smart guy instead of the secretary type.

Depends what kind of job function you are having performed. As a manager in a mill, I would take the hard working stupid guy. Give him/her simple mundane tasks to be completed all day long. The smart lazy guy wouldn't last an hr and would be whining (sp) the whole time, making everyone cop a bad attitude like his. Morale and teamwork are not over rated slogans.

Now in the IT world, smart and lazy are ok. Dude is not forced to work to hard to accomplish his meager goals, while still maintaining a good attitude.

Smart lazy people think of ways to eliminate extra work. Stupid people break the coffee machine in the morning, causing me to go completely and totally insane.

I agree it depends on the work. When I was bagging groceries at 15 or 16 I would've preferred working with the hard working/stupid types. But working in an office I prefer working with someone smart/laid-back rather than some ballbuster.

Four types of workers.

Smart / Lazy
Smart / Hard working
Dumb / Lazy
Dumb / Hard working

The only type you do not want to hire is the 4th, because they can really F things up.

When you work with hard working idiots, they get a lot of stuff done but it is all worthless crap that you have to redo the right way.
