Time to trim the fat. It sucks but in a way some of these firms will come out more efficient.

If you really want an eye opener then go to your respective states job services division and search for WARN notices. That should give you a fresh perspective on how things are going in your area. I just pulled up the 2008 FL list and it's 23 pages long.

This is directly related to the frozen capital markets and the company's inability to finance the receivables.

:(

This got another family member and up until I moved to New Jersey when found a job debi was working for Wyndham, granted it was $8 hr minimum wage it was still work.

Bullshit. I highly doubt you have anybody. They haven't even come out with the list of people cut yet, I know it because I have many friends there, I worked there for 3 years and know the CFO, Treasurer, and worked right next to the CEO/CFO of timeshare.
There is no way Dave will have a response to this.. only thing he can do is hope this thread falls.

Gannett laid of 2,000 people (about 10%) in their newspaper division late last year. They had already laid off 1,000 people a few months prior.

I don't have a link, but I'm pretty sure Gannett laid off a couple/few thousand in early 2008 as well.

Also announced today a mandatory 1-week unpaid furlough for all employees remaining after the slash-and-burn of last month.

Add this as well

Cooper Tire Plant in Albany Georgia is shutting down. Not sure on exact estimates but it was one of the top 3 businesses in this town so it was a huge hit on us.

^Sorry to hear it.

I noticed our local GE plant (lighting fixture) is laying off about 9-10% of the workforce. But can't find any 'national' announcement about GE layoffs. Looks like they are just announcing it locally at each plant (I googled), but combined I suspect this is a pretty large layoff.
