It wasn't drugs that killed him... It was Courtney Love!

All kidding aside though, I loved AIC's music and it sucks that he died. :(

<< Staley told the magazine he did not want to be seen as a rock god or martyr >>

Let's hope the same fags that tried to do that with Cobain don't try to do that with him.

It looks as if his drug use got the best of him. At least he spoke out about it unlike that chickensh!t little coward Cobain.

Red, I like and respect you, but can you please just lay off commenting on this topic? As they were in the Cobain thread, your comments here are themselves essentially pointless, and unnecessarily hurtful. Are you going to follow up with that bizarre non sequitur about "those who choose life" next?

Sorry Don Vito, those who choose life deserve respect where those who take the cowardly way out like Cobain deserve scorn.

This is sad. One of my favorite songs is by AIC ("Don't Follow") and they have a lot of other good ones...Would, Heaven Beside You, Down In A Hole, Rooster, I Stay Away.

Didn't AIC break up though like 2 years ago?

Oh well, at least Cobain and Staley will be remembered and missed. Whereas when you go(I predict choking on a drumstick in the bathtub), the only tears shed will be those of joy. That's if anyone cares at all.

Yee Haw, let's get all pushed out of shape because someone insults your hero fanboy. BTW, my comment was about Cobain, not Staley.

Look, that's my opinion. You don't have to agree with it but no matter what you say I'm sticking with it.

I have always been amazed by people's arrogant attitude toward suicide. I think, in the instance of Cobain, that he was obviously a deeply troubled person, and the same forces that motivated his suicide are the ones that made him such a powerful artist. That said, I totally fail to see anything cowardly in suicide, and in some instances (not in Cobain's, admittedly), it can be downright noble in that it is motivated by a desire to save others pain and indignity through the total sacrifice of the decedent. A suicide like Cobain's is, to me, the most extreme symptom of a deep depression, and I can't see any cause for, or benefit to criticizing him after the fact.

Man, I really don't like hearing about these guys (grunge singers) dying. It's an eerie feeling to listen to someone's voice when they are no longer with us. yet I can't stop myself from firing up my Alice in Chains CDs and hearing this voice beyond the grave.

I'm the exact right age for grunge to be a very meaningful musical movement. I was 19 in 1990. I'm from the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Alaska). I saw grunge slam dunk the 1980s into history's basket of past genres. That is the way it happened: suddenly.

I can't really say I was expecting much from AIC anymore, but this is truly disheartening. It seems like a long time ago that I last heard about Staley's heroin abuse. I though he might actually be getting over it now. It's amazing what some people can do for music and then what they can do take away from it. By the way, I may not be correct, but I thought Cantrell wrote nearly all of AIC's lyrics. I'm not taking away from Staley's vocal talent, though. Also, William S. Burroughs was known to abuse heroin all his life. He lived to 83, dying of a heart-attack. I'm sure heroin may have contributed to it, but he was 83.

Never listened to the music by this guy but I hope he has found peace. Never wish death upon anyone and remember respect the dead regardless of whom they may be. It will not make a difference for the dead but it will make you a better person.

It was about a 60/40 split Cantrell/Staley writing credits
