"What's my drug of choice? Well what have you got?"

"You can't understand a user's mind, but try with your books and degrees."

It's always been there in 1s and 0s.

<< By the way, I may not be correct, but I thought Cantrell wrote nearly all of AIC's lyrics. I'm not taking away from Staley's vocal talent, though. >>

It was about a 60/40 split Cantrell/Staley writing credits
>>

Its more like 80/20 Cantrell/Staley.

You know, I don't feel sorry for the guy. He chose to do drugs, and he knew where he would end up. If he didn't know, he must not have been as smart as you all give him credit for being.

I'm not being insensitive, I'm calling it like it is. He alone is responsible, and he knew where his actions would lead. His talent has nothing to do with his drug use and death.

<< A suicide like Cobain's is, to me, the most extreme symptom of a deep depression, and I can't see any cause for, or benefit to criticizing him after the fact. >>

The cause and benefit are to keep the MTV hero worshippers who try to make suicidal, drug addicted losers into rock legends in check. Keith Moon and John Bonham were legends whose lifestyle got the best of them. To elevate these grunge burnouts to the same status is a load of manure.

Staley had lots of problems and it's sad that he died.

Man, some of you guys...

I liked a few of their songs, but overall didn't like them as a band - my opinion.

He did the drugs, he knew what they could/would do to him - his f'ing choice and a dumbass one at that. I don't think you can argue here.

Addiction you say? What a cop out. You made the choice to start. You made the choice to continue. Yes, I think it's a choice to continue.

The "lifestyle" as you call it that got the best of Bonham and Moon is called drinking to excess which make them no smarter or better then Cobain or Staley.

Wake up young man, it's time to wake up...your love affair has got to go...for 10 long years, for 10 long years
the leaves to rake up...slow suicide's no way to go, oh....blue, clouded grey...you're not a crack up
dizzy and weakened by the haze...moving onward...so an infection not a phase...yeah, oh
the cracks and lines from where you gave up...they make an easy man to read, oh
for all the times you let them bleed you...for little peace from god you plead, and beg
for little peace from god you plead...ahhaahh, yeah...wake up young man, wake up, wake up
wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up...oh, yeah...wake up young man, it's time to wake up
your love affair has got to go, yeah...for 10 long years, for 10 long years, the leaves to rake up
slow suicide's no way to go, oh...slow suicide's no way to go...wake up, wake up, wake up
wake up, wake up, wake up

Wake Up - Mad Season

The above song is from the album Above, which, for any AIC fans who did not catch it back in the day, is a very good CD worth adding to the collection. I left it in my car changer for a good 2 years.

Alice in Chains was a staple in my CD collection throughout the 90's. I am now beginning to feel really old that all my band's are dying off. But unfortunately, this seems to be a side effect of being a grunge rocker.

So your saying that there was nothing he could do. The drugs did it to him and he had no control. You are saying he was not responsible.

If he was not who was? Who made the fokkin choice to do the drugs in the first place?

You say we don't understand addiction. You are the one who does not understand addiction. One of my friends, a man in his forties, a seventies hippy, has overcome pot and achoholism. He was an incredible drunk, I don't think he was sober at all for like 20 years. He saw that it was runing his life and overcame it. Was it easy, hell no!!! Another friend is fighting hardcore drug use. He is winning, but sometimes doesn't know if he will make it.

You are a supreme jackass... Layne Staley's death is tragic, but not suprising or something to be cannonized. He did it to himself, and it was a choice.
