Not sure about your area, but all over the midwest when you enter a town they have signs that say "Engine Braking Ordinance In Effect" or "Engine Braking Prohibited".

looking at rims to tell if a car on the side is going to start moving is a good way to drive [defensively]. The guy isn't totally out of his mind.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Engine Breaking is worse because you are actually behind the guy and could hit him. Spinning wheels don't affect you if you'r ebehind him and if you're coming up from the side, you shoudl be able to tell if the car is slowing by looking at the whole car in relation to the road.

What a dumbass.

That applies to the noisy "Jake Brakes" used on transports, not downshifting a Honda. :p

"That's crazy. If somebody can look at wheels spinning and . . . can't tell if the car is moving or not, maybe they shouldn't be on the road,' said Chad Saxton, a salesman at Total Truck in Des Moines.

totally agree with above statement. Even though I think spinners are dumb as hell...especially spinenr hubcaps.

i think if someone want to get them and make themselves look like a complete tard...thats their right to do so.

I think spinners are completely retarded, but it's a free country. If people wanna spend their $$$ on something stupid who are we to say no?

Someone needs to smack this lawmaker in the back of his head!

I'm amazed by the moronic things going on today. Let's ban spinners, fire smokers, and not allow children under 6 in PG movies after 7 pm. I call for the death penalty for any smoker driving a car with spinners taking their child to see a PG movie after 7.

I propose that they add some videos of cars with spiners to the written driving test. Anyone who can't tell which cars are moving should not get their license.

One of my HS teachers was one of those people who comes up with ideas for inventions in his head, but never follows through patenting them. He said once he was thinking about a device that adds a "third brakelight" to cars that lights when you take your foot off the gas of the car (if CC isn't enabled). This light would serve as a warning to people that "Hey, I could be applying my breaks soon here, you better back off".

Struyk blames a set of spinners for a near-accident he had before Christmas. He said he was driving along a rural road when he saw another car stopped at a four-way-stop with spinners.

"I couldn't tell if the car was going to stop or not because he had spinning hubcaps," Struyk said. "So I jammed on the brakes and had my trailer (nearly) jackknife on me."

Am I reading this wrong? If he's coming up to a four-way stop, shouldn't he be getting ready to stop whether there is another car there or not? Why is he approaching a 4-way stop going fast enough to jack-knife? Was he just planning on running the stop sign?

Hahahahah!!!

(BTW: I'd vote for this ban. There are plenty of stupid people who will think the other vehicle is still moving...)

Sometimes, even as a true patriot, I think this country is too stupid and too legislation-dependent to live. I wish I were an Iowa voter so I could dump this moron like yesterday's garbage.
