the microchip in my dog might be faster, i no ill take that out of my dog and build my own videocard using the chip from the dog and name the new videocard doggone, always thinking i am

well the 470 is rumored to do P16,700 in 3dmark vantage and X7300 on the extreme setting. That's slightly less than a 5870.
5,000 to 10,000 units at launch

gtx 480 from the info I've been gathering, looks to me like this..

600/625 core
1250 shader
512 sp's (confirmed)
225 watt power usage. (confirmed)

gtx 470? havent heard much!

Looks to be inline with the rumors about a Fermi being 5% faster then a 5870.(by Bright side of the news Charlie)
I think they were testing a gtx 470.

Semi accurate might be right but all of you people are stating stuff including me that could be just crap nobody knows the real benchmarks but for nvidia yet ,so a guess or a rumour is as good as a lie isnt it and causes the bullshit to keep going round ,
lets just wait

I don't think that rollo was the only focus group member lurking around here back in the day, he was just much more annoying than the rest.

People waited ten years for ati to get there act together
didnt they
Did they? From what I know, their last absolutely awesome, rock-the-pants-off-NVidia GPU was the 9800, that was in 2002(?), and then AMD started doing better again in 2007 with the 3870 and 3870X2, and came back spectacularly in 2008 with the 4870. So not really 10 years, closer to 6. Of course, I'm clueless about what happened in between RV300 and RV600, so if something awesome happened for ATI then I don't know about it.

The X850XT was faster than the 6800 Ultra but not by a whole lot. The X1800XT was late to the game but faster than the 7800GTX (the version available to consumers). The X1900XT was similarly faster than the 7900GTX. The 2900XT failed miserably against the stellar G80 and the 3800 series was rather mediocre.

IMO ATI started going downhill with the R600 and then redeemed themselves with the R700 cards. So closer to 2 years of disappointment.

Heck no. The 95/6/7/800 were nice cards, X8XX were good as well, followed by a late X1800XT. They redeemed themselves with the X1900XT (hot/loud, but not as bad as the FX5800 leafblowers) then proceeded to fall flat on their faces with the 29XX and 38xx lines.

What's going on? It's less than a month for the so called "Launch" of the most famous GPU of the year, and nobody has an idea how much it will cost? Really?

I'll add my two cents!

ATI didn't really have any worthy gaming cards until the radeon 9700 pro. So from the release of their first 3d card (1994) to the launch of the 9700 pro, they were rather lackluster. That'd be the longest period of fail tho. And the original radeon and the 8500 had a lot of promise, at least providing alternatives to nvidia. (though powervr's kyro had more success in the low end I think)

X800 generation was overpriced on the lower end cards compared to nvidia, but ATI still won in performance at the high end. No directx9.0c though, which did effects games within the lifetime of the card.

X1800 was underperforming.
X1900 regained the lead.
Hd2900 barely seemed like an improvement over the x1950xt, while g80 was insanely better. Plus, HD2900 was borked in its AA and anisotropic functionality.
3000 series was an ok mid-range competitor, but more of an original radeon type deal.
4000 and 5000 are complete roll reversals, and the 5000 is looking like it might be a 9700pro repeat, and the 4000 being the first time ati provided a better deal across the line-up instead of just at the high end or low end.
