Prof John, I don't post much but it's been quite obvious from reading your posts on which side of the aisle you fall. I am an independent and most likely won't be voting for Obama (or McCain) and therefore like to stay out of these debates. However, your post here deserves a response due to the sheer nature of its absurdity.

Isn't it clearly probable that preceding this statement, especially in light of the short term crisis to which he is referring, dealt with reforms in economic policy? In that context (or in any context), this is nowhere near the declaration made by McCain that the economy is fundamentally strong. PJ, by all means be a partisan, just try to be honest.
I'll be honest now in saying that I think, at least in some instances, McCain's "fundamentally strong" statements about the economy are not as egregious as some would have us believe. For instance. He does make the statement but then goes on to say that reform is needed. In this case, he may have just been referring to the American worker or capitalism itself. Don't know. I will say that I used to hold a decent opinion of the man. Lately, though, I've considered him to be unworthy of respect or admiration of any form. It seems he's unable to speak the truth, as of late, which certainly doesn't distinguish him from his peers. He still doesn't understand the economy. He won't be getting my vote.
