i don't think there are really any more states that can tip obama besides west virgina. Does anyone think that montana or north dakota can switch, since those are probably 'next'

Probably not... It may not even stay as it is now and some will go back to McCain, realistically.

The funny thing is, this is 100% McCain and McCain campaign's self inflicted wounds.

- Economy is fundamantally strong comment
- I am suspending my campaign to deal with this crisis (how strong is it now?).
- Mean spirited condescending attitude turned independants off.
- hero McCain takes credit for getting the bill enough support to pass.
- Bailout loses in house - OOOPS! well... "Now is not the time to point blame, but its Obama's fault"
You and Obama need to get your talking points straight.

Watch this nice 8 second clip of Obama

So Obama is now saying the same thing McCain did, but McCain took hell for the comment and Obama gets a pass??

There's no date on the video.

Even if there were, I fail to see the issue. Obama says we need to address the immediate problem. And after that's done, we need to address the fundamentals to make sure the economy really grows. That's a HELL of a lot different from McCain saying the economy is "fundamentally sound" (meaning RIGHT NOW) just before the sh!t hit the fan.

right wing idiocy does not have borders, my friend

you'll have to excuse them from anything that may remotely be considered as being within a logical framework.

Man, it's going to be fun bumping posts from people saying McCain was going to win this in a landslide! rofl.

who said that, other than maybe Dave?

this is the worst election year for the GOP since Nixon.

Lots of work stilll needs to be done and followed thru on.
I just cant help remembering everyone thought Kerry
had it all wrapped up. Even on election day 2004 everyone
thought Kerry had it, till the results came in.
I'll never forget the smile turning to a sick look on James Carville's
face on CNN that night as one state after another went Bush.

Palin continues to lower McCain's ratings

I wonder sometimes if John McCain is on the verge of just losing it. During the debate he kept looking ready to punch the podium. Picking Palin as VP running mate. It seems like he's just making rash decisions lately, his flip flopping has gotten to the point of absurdity. Palin can't even name more than one supreme court case other than Roe v. Wade, every time Katie Couric corners her on "just give me one" question, Palin begins to talk in pure generalizations.

Her memory must be bad, because she was plenty critical of a supreme court case back during the Exxon Valdez ruling.

In that June 25 decision, the Court said the punitive damage award, originally set by a jury at $5 billion, was excessive under maritime law and knocked it down to $507 million. Last week Exxon Mobil agreed to begin paying out some of the award, though a dispute remains over interest.
...
After the Supreme Court ruled, Gov. Palin was critical of the outcome. "I am extremely disappointed with today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court," she was quoted as saying. "While the decision brings some degree of closure to Alaskans suffering from 19 years of litigation and delay, the Court gutted the jury's decision on punitive damages." She also said, "It is tragic that so many Alaska fishermen and their families have had their lives put on hold waiting for this decision. My heart goes out to those affected, especially the families of the thousands of Alaskans who passed away while waiting for justice."

Seriously. I'm happier than a pig in shit right now, and if this was Nov 1st, I'd call it a foregone conclusion. But it's Oct 1st, the longest damn month of an election year.

At this point we'll definitely see within a week and a half as far as things shake out. If Obama has at least a 6 point lead on Oct 15th and especially after the debates it definitely will be hard for McCain to come back.

At this point also, Obama needs to continue to do what he is doing. Let McCain self destruct.

When did Carvele ever not look sick? LOL. The man looks like a cross between cancer boy and the grim reaper.

But seriously... Obama is not Kerry, and 2008 has a lot more serous issues than 2004. Most "thinking" americans can see that the reps have really screwed us up badly.

Ya, and after Nixon Ford won... so I am not sure what loki meant. Anyhow, its not looking good for reps.

I like how all the die hard reps were sure Obama had all speach and no substance, cant talk about issues and would fall on his face in the debates. They liisten to teh right slanted news and have no actual clue what he is about. Well. He is about to be your prez!!! LOL

Um, Ford was one of the few U.S. Presidents who never "won" the election. He got the office after Nixon resigned, and he lost to Carter when he actually faced election. Gerald Ford was never elected as President. Heck, he wasn't even elected Vice President - he was appointed following the resignation of Agnew. Don't they teach you kiddies history anymore?

538 is saying today that Obama wins even without the "battleground" states...

or whats left of the "battleground" states.

wow.

No person in the know thought kerry had it in the bag. Go look at the polls between kerry and bush leading up to the election. It was a dead heat with bush up a point or two.

I was refering to the 1976 election.

Nixon was reelected twice, resigned in scandal, after which Ford took over but faced re-election in the worst anti-Republican atmosphere imaginable and lost to Carter (who promptly lost to Reagan once Americans saw what electing a peanut farmer did for them).

The United States presidential election of 1976 followed the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon in the wake of the Watergate scandal. It pitted incumbent President Gerald Ford, the Republican candidate, against the relatively unknown former governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter, the Democratic candidate. Ford was saddled with a slow economy and paid a political price for his pardon of Nixon. Carter ran as a Washington "outsider" and reformer and won a narrow victory.

He'll probably focus on NH and PA. Only kerry states that MIGHT be in play even though PA has been moving away from him too.

Let's remember, this is a national trend and it can be reversed. IF palin does well tonight then maybe it will be reversed, or at least the bleeding will stop.

It's somewhat comforting that Obama is up in the polls and is finally gaining a bit of a lead. It's not time to begin popping champagne or clinking glasses together though. A scant few weeks ago the race was much closer and in a few more weeks things could change again.

A victory is not ensured until the voting booths close. I'll wait until then to celebrate.

Very true. THere's still room for a major obama gaffe.

Here's how I see the debate tonight: It's like the NBA finals, the celtics are up 2-0 and game 3 is in LA. If the celtics win, they crush the laker's spirit. If the laker's win, they avoid being crushed entirely. This debate is a chance to take the remaining wind out of mccain's sails (barring something ELSE) or to revitalize them if we get a surprise performance.

And this is bizarre because historically, VP debates mean nothing. VP selections mean little in the end. But the mccain campaign has greatly increased the importance of Sarah Palin.
