The funny thing is, this is 100% McCain and McCain campaign's self inflicted wounds.

- Economy is fundamantally strong comment
- I am suspending my campaign to deal with this crisis (how strong is it now?).
- Mean spirited condescending attitude turned independants off.
- hero McCain takes credit for getting the bill enough support to pass.
- Bailout loses in house - OOOPS! well... "Now is not the time to point blame, but its Obama's fault"
You and Obama need to get your talking points straight.

So Obama is now saying the same thing McCain did, but McCain took hell for the comment and Obama gets a pass??

Prof John, I don't post much but it's been quite obvious from reading your posts on which side of the aisle you fall. I am an independent and most likely won't be voting for Obama (or McCain) and therefore like to stay out of these debates. However, your post here deserves a response due to the sheer nature of its absurdity.

and then after this immediate problem, we've got the long term fundamentals that will really make sure this economy grows

Isn't it clearly probable that preceding this statement, especially in light of the short term crisis to which he is referring, dealt with reforms in economic policy? In that context (or in any context), this is nowhere near the declaration made by McCain that the economy is fundamentally strong. PJ, by all means be a partisan, just try to be honest.

I'll be honest now in saying that I think, at least in some instances, McCain's "fundamentally strong" statements about the economy are not as egregious as some would have us believe. For instance. He does make the statement but then goes on to say that reform is needed. In this case, he may have just been referring to the American worker or capitalism itself. Don't know. I will say that I used to hold a decent opinion of the man. Lately, though, I've considered him to be unworthy of respect or admiration of any form. It seems he's unable to speak the truth, as of late, which certainly doesn't distinguish him from his peers. He still doesn't understand the economy. He won't be getting my vote.

A victory is not ensured until the voting booths close and the supreme court is done diddling. I'll wait until then to celebrate.
My take...

The hell with whatever this thread is about, I just love your historical allusions, Robert!

Is McCain very confident that he will win Michigan? He is ending his efforts there.

He'll probably focus on NH and PA. Only kerry states that MIGHT be in play even though PA has been moving away from him too.

Let's remember, this is a national trend and it can be reversed. IF palin does well tonight then maybe it will be reversed, or at least the bleeding will stop.

PA is out of reach for him. Only Kerry state he has a chance in is NH.

Hey, this is big news! I thought for sure he would lose Florida.

If Obama can hold onto his current numbers for one month, then McCain won't stand a chance in hell.

Obama recognized that there's an immediate problem. McCain tried to pretend that all was cheery.

ALSO, this clip is taken out of context; he's not talking about our current economy, he's talking about his plan for economic revitalization.

The Republicans are just full of so much bullshit

Yup... The fact that he may take Nevada and Misourri is pretty huge too. Generally people that dont like a new poll thread when a major change happens are people on the losing side of that poll =)

To pick a nit, he was re-elected once, elected twice.

Both of his elections are all the evidence we need of real problems with our voters/system.

OP....you should add that the latest polls show Obama +15 in PA.

This could be the perfect storm of elections and end up one of the biggest landslides in history. (Note that I said "one of"...ain't no one getting hammered as bad as McGovern)

Take a look at the last 10 elections in the OP's link... 1972, 1980, 1984 (worse than McGovern), and 1988 are substantially bigger landslides than what's currently showing for this election. 1992 and 1996 are slightly bigger. That's all but 4 of the last 10 elections.

When did Carvele ever not look sick? LOL. The man looks like a cross between cancer boy and the grim reaper.

But seriously... Obama is not Kerry, and 2008 has a lot more serous issues than 2004. Most "thinking" americans can see that the reps have really screwed us up badly.

There aren't many "thinking" americans to come by... that's the problem now, as it was in '04.
