Hooters News Service In a startling turn of events, the Dutch Power Cows (DPCs) have systematically, and dramatically knocked Team AnandTech out of their rightful spot at the top of the daily rankings for the RC5-64 encryption project.

Insiders say that this disaster appears to be a combination of aggressive recruiting efforts by the DPCs at a time when the horsepower of the TA membership has been spread thin over a multitude of projects. It?s sad, but true, that even with a forum membership base over 30,0000 in number, Team AnandTech has only been able to muster approximately 600 daily participants in RC5.

Those close to the project have speculated that this low participation number is due to the mis-conception that cracking RC5 actually involves a high degree of effort. The facts say otherwise. In this reporters mind, it is clearly a very simple, and painless installation. In the words of one member, ?Hell, if Paulson can do it, anybody can.?:)

All the while, the DPC crew has been invading the AnandTech Distributed Computing Forum with their on-going taunts and bragging; thumbing their noses at the once proud and mighty Team AnandTech RC5 effort. To quote one member of the DPC?s ?Neener, neener, we?re number one, and you can?t do anything about it!?

In the words of one of the more vocal, and frustrated members of Team AnandTech, ?How can we let this happen? We have the largest most active forums on the web! We NEED MORE MEMBERS! And, it is so easy to get started! This is an outrage!!!!!!?

Damn, people, this is all over the news wires. We have been embarrassed. Will you stand for this, or will you stand up and show these interlopers who the real boss is? Let?s get a couple hundred more people on board, and get back on top where we belong!:D We have the power here among the membership, let?s fire it up, and SHOW the DPCs what a REAL smackdown is like.

It?s easy to get started, and works automatically once it?s installed. Everything you ever wanted to know, but were afraid to ask is at http://www.anandtech.com/rc5.html. If that isn?t enough, we have a forum full of the most active, helpful people you?d ever want to meet: http://forums.anandtech.com/categories.cfm?catid=39.

This is so easy, what are you waiting for?

OMG! LMAO! HAHAHAHA!

Hmmm...should I resume the crackage...I started but then quit...then reformatted...since I already have an account, what do I do? Just download and fill in my info and password? I don't remember if thats what to do or not...

BTW, it will work in WinME I presume? :)

Zippy,

Yes, it works perfectly in ME. That's what my test bench is running. Yep, install it, put your eMail address in and, bam, you're cracking again.

How do I get my client to never touch another OGR packet again? I have my precedence set with RC5 first but it keeps cracking OGR even after I delete the buffer file...

All of you guys who have those mad whack out overclock to hell comps, put those spare cpu cycles to work. And test you system stability at the same time, all the while helping us beat the DPC. Join in and try some crack :D

Danm COWS.. Well I'm at work right now. But when I get home tonight I'll download the software and start contributing. Sorry didn't think the team would need me since they're doing so good.

DPC aren't just visting your RC5 Forum ;)

Moooooooooooooooooooo! :D

Come on, you are talking like all DPC's are bad. The irritating braggers only came to your site when DPC started their Megaflush. The regular DPC visitors aren't that bad?

The braggers will go away soon again.

I cant run it anymore... My system was rock solid at 464 before, but after a month and a half of my cpu runing at 100% load, I crash at 300 now. The fact I needed 2.3V to get it stable was most likely a contributing factor as well.

zippy - OGR is another project by Distributed Net that uses the same client as RC5. OGR is a newer project and runs by default. To dissable it you can do it through the client's configuration or by manualy editing dnetc.ini and adding the following lines.

[misc]
project-priority=RC5,DES=0,CSC=0,OGR=0

KotchY - The RC5 client has no banners at all. You can also heve it running completely hidden without any screen output.

GeoffS - CRAY's are not good at RC5. The RC5 client doesn't use the L2 at all (I have a cacheless Celeron and is as fast as a P3 at the same freq). RC5 only cares about the frequency and the CPU's core.

Yo guys, normally we aren't beaten THAT badly. They are still doing their megaflush. I think tomorrow is the last day. They will drop dramatically once it is over. But yes, we still need lots more people cracking. Especially thoughs of you that started and stopped, because it's soo easy for you to start again, you just have to open the client.

Zippy, that?s just 1 person. Ask Russ or any other large heard owners how many Overclocked celerons they are running.

It's really not an unstable client. I've been running my system 24/7 since the day I started RC5 (3-4 months ago).

We need all the help we can get. Most of us are doing this to give something back to this great community. So please join the AnandTech RC5 team.

By the way, even after their mega flush, I predict they will dump 1.8+ Million blocks per day.

ok- sounds like you are sucking me in to the maelstrom of rc-5, can I just have it run while I am sleeping?
