Late breaking news! DPCs open a major can on Team AnandTech!

consider my 2x550, 800 and 366 back in the fray... I've been absent since the formats... buts I'll rejoin. Damn Dutch. Never like their kind.

resinboy: You can sleep, eat go to school,go to work, heck go to the moon-and that cow just keeps a crackin' as long as your computer is on.😀

resinboy,
The RC5 client operates at the lowest processing priority, so it only uses CPU cycles that other programs aren't using. If you load another program that requires more CPU, the RC5 client gives it up quicker than you can say Team Anandtech. 🙂

So you can keep in cracking all the time the PC is on! 🙂

I know you people are going to kill me to ask this question. 😛 Been around for a while and heard a lot about RC5. What is RC5? Sounds like a service running in your OS. What does it do? Or we are talking about software reverse engineering (cracker)? After thru whole bunch of articles but still can't figure it out.

Proud to be part of AnandTech, wish there is a bumper sticker for it.

Paulson,

I wrote the piece before you had your page up. Quit bitching.

Wooster,

The goal is to try and crack the 64 bit encryption code developed by RSA. They even sponsor the contest.

Russ, NCNE

I too had a format a few months ago and then that whole OGR thing.....grumble,grumble....and sometimes being self-employed just bites! 😉

Alright...my Athlon's back in to stay..(maybe my laptop also) 🙂

Hey thanks to Russ for that OGR=0 tip!

Russ

Thanks for the head up. What does that have to do with service in our PC? Need our CPU power to crack this encryption? I will join TA if it's not too complicated to setup. 🙂

I'm cracking RC5 on seven of my own comps. OS's include Win95, Win98SE, and NT4. Never had any problems from the client or the hardware even though three machines are dualie Celery 300a@450! One is a cheapie PCChips mobo under a K6-2 300, still no trouble at all. I even let it run while in Falcon4 and UT. Been crack'n for 580 days 24/7 with no letup in sight (until I find the key anyway 😉).
The only downside to all this is that I've become an incurable statsaholic like many others **coughruss cough** on the team.
When you join be sure to let us know over at the Distributed Computing forum so that we can give you our "welcome aboard". Unfortunately we reserve the Hot tub, Babes and Beer perk until you hit a million blocks. Hehhe, looks like I'm next in the list!!! Woooo-o-oMoooo-o-o-o-o!!!.

But seriously folks, come on over and check it out. We can use your help and we promise it won't hurt, HONEST!!

Geoff

Wooster, Its very easy. Just download the client and enter an email address (a valid one, cause you need it to get the password).

Then change it to crack RC5 instead of OGR (http://www.anandtech.com/rc5.html)

Then after 24 hours, you can get your password and join Team AnandTech. If you have any question, anything at all, visit the Distributed computing forum.

Oh and Welcome back to the team guys! 😀

If the teacher/admin has half a brain, there will be no problems. It only uses spare cycles. It will even run while you play UT!
It damages nothing, it impairs nothing.

I wish I could assimulate the 40 - 50 comps at in my group at work. But the firewall wont allow rc5 to pass through.

Adul, we'll be glad to help you get through that. If it's absolutely impossible to get a pproxy to connect, we'll be glad to send you(and take in) block buffers for a pproxy(a proxy for your machines), so that you can still participate. We've used it for another member before, so it works great.😀 Just stop by the DC forum if you're still interested.🙂

If you guys want a real stability test, run SETI🙂. It'll crash a crap system faster than anything. Figured I'd put a SETI plug in here, cuz we need a lot of members too🙂.

HOLY CRAP! Im back! I left for a while because the client was getting goofy with OGR and stuff but now that I found out how to do rc5 only (thanks to this thread 😛 ) im back.

Its not like my crunching power is insane or anything, but every little bit help.

Adul, I hope you do get those systems to work. You'd have a bitchin heard.

I guarantee you: you'll be a stats freak in a week. 😀

EDIT - Welcome to the team Piku 🙂

YEAH Baby YEAH!

good job RUSS!

though you know, we need to mention RC-5 in other threads. maybe we should make up some clever sig's that have to do with RC-5.. that and, whenever someone talks about overclocking MENTION RC-5. tell them that it's a good way to help the people who helped you overclock your CPU or something like that.

we need people to see this. they only see some thread and say, bah it's that stupid RC-5 thing.. I'm not going to waste my time figuring out what it is...
