Last of Us. GI gives a 9.5 Why?

So .5 big whoop, but why the .5? That game was amazing, not one part was i disappointed about. I know it depends on the reviewer but still...seen way shitty games get 10.

nothing is perfect that is why, however its about as close to perfection as you can get, the synergy between the story telling, the environment and gameplay is something im not sure ive ever seen done so well

yes some people dont like it, thats the way it is but with so much praise coming from pretty much everywhere those people are the outliers

Its "trendy" to bash stuff nowdays.... way more hits for a website who "dislikes" the new hot game then just another great review.. but.. .5 that's not bad at all for any game.. I think its just fine at 9.5 even if its one of the best games i have played.. non issue.

Yep.

9.5 is too high a score for that game.

Then again, gaming "journalism" is a complete farce.

From what I've seen the game doesn't even deserve a 7, but I'm judging it on the gameplay, not the story.

I haven't played it yet (because for some silly reason people seem to think their used PS3s are worth $250 when I can buy a new one for $270...), but I take it is rather linear in a gameplay perspective. Not that this is a problem for me, so long as it has a reason (story in most cases). But I can see reviewers disapproving. They want a game with immense story that is non linear with amazing multiplayer and it gives you a blowjob when you do something difficult OR they want money from the publishers; either will make your game rate perfect.

And a 9.5 should be expected. I am sure the game has it's shortcomings and faults. A 10 would have to either have none, or be so overwhelmingly good despite it's faults that they can be easily overlooked.

Also, take into account people might not like the subject matter of the story, and that will bring down it's rating. The zombie apocalypse has been rather played out at this point. Not much new ground is being broken in this genre.

I don't think you can make a lot of those claims without playing it. There may not be groundbreaking things but it sets a new bar for a few aspects to a level never seen before.

Honestly I'm surprised the game didn't score lower. I played the game and I loved it but it definitely don't deserve a 10. The game play mechanics like your people with you running right in front of a clicker and not being seen is bogus as shit. There were some issues with the game and it wasn't perfect, but no game is perfect.

Not saying I agree with the games that get a 10 rating because every game has issues. The Last Of Us was the best console game I have ever played and I still don't think it deserved a 9.5 to be real with you.

I dont even like linear games as.i.mostly play pc games. But that game had me by my seat.the.whole way. Graphics, story, the mechanics even were amazing imo. Mp was not even a reason that i got it and i find.myself enjoying hours of it.

I thought the GI review was pretty accurate, maybe rated it too high IMO.

I'm not sure why you think it deserves a 10, but to each his own.

I would definitely rate this game in my top 5 games so far this year, but not the best.

The only claim I made about the game was that it was linear, which I thought was a universally accepted idea of it. I made come claims about reviewers in general and the genre, but not about how well this game does that genre.

A lot of reviewers are removing points for flaws in the MP these days. That's just bogus.

Granted it's part of the package you get when you buy it, but I think they should be judged separately. Like Battlefield 3...Single player I give a 5/10 but MP is easily an 8 or 9.

I played The Last of Us and I'm not any sort of Sony or Naughty Dog fanboy... I have all 3 consoles and had never played any of their previous games other than like 20 minutes of Crash Bandicoot in 1996.

It's clearly a 10/10 masterpiece game IMO.

9.5 I can understand... sort of. 8.0 that GameSpot gave it was absurd.
