Last of the Mohicans - Great Finale or Greatest Finale?

It was on Encore tonight and flipped on the tv halfway through - definitely one of those movies you can pick up anywhere midstream and find yourself engrossed. The entire movie is excellent, but the latter half - and especially the ending sequence - is stunning.

Kinda takes me back to the 'great movies have great music theme.' Other than Schindler's List violin theme, I can't really think of a more emotional piece in a major movie production.

Kudos to you Daniel Day White Indian Guy. Excellent movie is excellent.

And for those of you wondering - the end scene

Saw that was coming up and I told the DVR to record it.

Great movie. Very well-made -- in the way they just don't do anymore because it's always easier to do CG than to build a big / convincing set.

Greatest finale. Great score, action, emotion, despair with almost instant payback... yeah.

One of my top movies. My only gripe is that the North American version (including the Director's Cut Blu-ray) edit short the father's speech at the end.

I have the Soundtrack Score on CD. Along with Braveheart, I use to listen as study music in college.

I think this is a universal given.

Pretty much anything DDL touches is gold.

The music score on that movie was very darn good. Can't believe it was many years ago.

Saw it in the theaters, and even though I was a freshman in HS, I liked it. I didn't appreciate or fathom the beauty of that film back then, but I did like it.

Saw it several years ago, roommate had a decent DVD and BluRay collection.
First time I saw it in it's entirety for quite a while.
I was stunned. The scenery, the music, the dialogue. Everything.

I also was able to understand the drama behind the Hayward, Magua and the council scene. Talk about a crap situation for everyone.

One of my all-time favorites. Everything from the score to the amazing North Carolina mountains, the performances. It was a masterpiece. That long scene toward the end where they are running up the mountain path is on my list of best filmed scenes of all time.

Also, for any of you that haven't read the novel, is it considered one of the best in American literature. It's been even longer since I've read the novel, but I remember it being pretty good. Apparently, it is part of a series, though I only read The Last of the Mohicans.

Great movie. Kinda funny to think the old guy was toughest one in the movie. If I ever decide to get revenge on someone, I'm going to do it Magua style!

Novel was horrible, movie is a masterpiece. What's really cool is a whole lot of true history is wrapped up in this film such as the siege of Fort William Henry and the subsequent ambush of the surrendered British soldiers and their families. Kind of neat to read about all that and a lot of it happened around my area of the country.

I read it in Chinese when I was a kid. Had a collection of translated youth reader books.

I live right on the TN/NC state line; the final scenes were filmed within an hour of my house. I've stood on the very cliffs where the filming took place - Chimney Rock State Park. It's a magnificent place.

Love the movie...very different from novel from what I can remember. My mom got me to read the novel when I was very young and it was had for me to digest. I followed it up with "The Pathfinder" (another book in the series). Enjoyed that one much more at that age. I have a feeling that if I read them both now, I would prefer the Last of the Mohicans more.

Back to movie...great acting and beautiful scenery. Went to college nearby and spent A LOT of time up there. My parents still live in the area and when I visit, I regularly mountain bike near where some of the waterfall/river scenes were filmed. Love that area of the country.

One of the best. The ending scene with the music and almost no dialogue is one of my favorites ever. Being from East TN, the scenes always remind me of home. I think I'll have to go pick up the blu-ray this weekend.

As I recall Last of the Mohicans is considered to be the first real American novel. The sort English teachers think of as a classic. I'm a very big reader but personally I thought the writing style was dry, boring and basically unreadable.

The movie, OTOH, is a masterpiece. Best seen in a good theater.
