Someone posted this on Cendyne 4x DVD-R thread. I went to buy it today at PC Club store (44 stores in 7 states)

25 Pack DVD-R media for $19.99, it definitely burns at 2x on the 4x Cendyne recorder (Pioneer 105), gone through 4 already. Will go buy 50 tomorrow.

It has no label, silver top, purple dye.

1/31 is the last day.

The only review on their page.

Doesn't play in most players

Burns at 1X on my A05. There are Ritek G03 disks.

Plays in my Sony DVD player, but not my Panasonic DV52 or Apex 1500. Beware.

How did you get it to go 2X on the Cendyne drive? Mine only goes 1X. Disks work well though. What firmware are you using?

Who ever said they got these to burn at 2x was, was damn lucky.

They burn at a clean 1x on my A05 . They read good enough in my DVD player.

Saw another thread on same CDR's -

"So they are ritek and will burn at 2X with the pioneer A04 but only with firmware 1.31
there are firmware hacks for the pioneer A03/A04drives for 2x burning on all media"

Well,
It depends at your PC Club store. I picked up a 50pk for $40 and ended up getting Sony discs. They seem pretty good play fine on my players and burns at 2x on my 1.2 A05. I did notice that they had 2 types of spindles at my PC Club so the other type might be Riteks. Did you guys flash your A05/105's up to the newest firmware. I've heard it helps burn some media faster. Just wondering since if I get the Riteks I'd like to know if they are 2x capable.

If you guys do try and buy it at PC Club make sure you get the disks with the light purple bottom. These are the ones that burn at 2X on the A05. The dark purple bottom disks are Ritek and they only burn at 1X on the A05.

I just brought 100 (1 pack of 50, 2 packs of 25). I have the Ritek and the one I got from PC Club definitely has a lighter purple bottom then the Ritek (some claimed light purple bottom are Sony, I am not sure since I have no way of telling if it's Sony or Not). But all 3 bundles has serial numbers on the inside plastic of the every disk that began with "A2VK.......". I was able to back up DVD movie using PrimoDVD & DVD2One with my Pioneer A04 firmware 1.31 at 2X and it plays flawlessly in my Pioneer DV333 player.

Update:
My PS2 does not like the PC Club disk it wouldn't even boot and I have no problem with Ritek. Also I can only burn at 1X with Nero and 2x with Primo DVD, perhaps I should update Nero to the latest version maybe that will help.

V00DOO: You can get a program called NeroCDSpeed that'll tell you what type of media it is.
I've had good luck with the Ritek G03 that I got at pc club. The movies I burnt plays in all my dvd players and ps2. Only setback is only being able to burn them at 1x on my Pioneer DVR-105. :( I hear that the sony ones at pc club burns at 2x fine on the pioneer 105.

This deal is dead in store, has been for over a week. Price is $26.99 in store now. It's still $19.99 on their web site but the added cost of shipping kinda kills that deal.

I picked up 2 packs of 25 for $19.99 at the City of Industy Store and they have plenty left located on the middle cash register of the store. The store price is $26.99 but they'll pricematch their internet price for $19.99. If that doesn't work order it online and do a will call.I tried the NeroSpeed but it didn't give me the manufacture. I'll try ADVDinfo when I get home tonight.

For those that's interested here is a link to 50 disks for $39.99 plus tax & shipping where applicable. PC Club 50 DVD-R for $39.99.

If I walked into their store, is there a way to visually identify a SONY from the RITEK by pakaging alone???

Here is what you do, since the spindle of the 25 pack doesn't have any plastic on it, open it up and look on the bottom of the disc. If the color of the bottom disc is light purple than it is a Sony, if the bottom of the disc is dark purple than it is a Ritek.

Like I said from my previous post, the lighter purple bottom one has numbers on top of the Disk that began with A2VK..... you don't need to open the package. Can anyone thinks they got the Sony DVD-R confirm this?

I just picked up a 25 pack yesterday.
I scanned the new DVD's and they are SONY and the burn at 2X in my A05!!! Yippee!
I have to admit side by side to my RITEK G03, they do NOT look that much lighter purple, if at all.
BUT, I did notice if I hold the RITEK G03 up to the light and try to look THROUGH them (looking at the purple side), I can NOT see through them at ALL. There is such a mirror surface opposite the purple that they are like mirrors. On the other hand, the SONY's have a slight transparency to them...if I look through them (looking at the purple side), I can see THROUGH them slightly. I hope this helps people distinguish between them. The RITEK G03 only burn at 1X on my A05, so for me SONY is the ticket.
Happy hunting.
