I just bought a 25-pk in San Diego. They are the ones with code A1VK on them. I haven't recorded anything yet but Nero gives me the option for 2X on my Cendyne(Pioneer) A105. I'll verify later that they actually burn at 2X.

By the way, I confirmed that A2VK is SONY and A1VK seems to be LEAD (1X), so be cautious of A1VK!!
They have clear inner-rings, in otherwords, if you hold 3 DVD up to the light, you can see all 3 of the stamped codes because they are stamped on clear plastic. The 1X Ritek G03, on the otherhand, are stamped on NON-clear inner ring, if you hold 3 up to the light, you can only see the stamped code of the first.

You know for some reason, I feel that these Sonys are notmuch better off than the fellow LeadData or Ritek counter parts.

The top is unbranded shiny, which tends to peel off(a good indication of cheap media).

And the fact that they are sold together with Ritek and LeadData leads me to beleive that one of these manufacturers are actually making media for Sony (kinda like rebadging ex. cendyne-pioneer).

The biggest proof is the media label.

Sony has A2VK, while LD has A1VK.

Coincidence?? Hmm.....

Sony actually sells DVD-R media for quite a bit more and they look nothing like these unbranded ones.

In fact, even those with SONY labels on them aren't made by sony at all.

Usually Taido Yuden or other manufacturers supply the media and sony simply brands them.

Any other inputs???

If the discs all burned the same speed, I'm sure I'd prefer the RITEK...it seems to have better mfg quality.
But, the simple fact that the SONY's burn at 2X seals my decision. It saves my 30 minutes per burn! That is over 12 hours per 25 pk. That is very influential!

The A1VK is not limited to LEAD, because I have some and they ID as Sony...2x capable...no coaster yet w/these.

Anyone buy the 50pk from PC Club and get Sony's instead of Ritek? I want the 2x capability.

Like I said from my previous post, the lighter purple bottom one has numbers on top of the Disk that began with A2VK..... you don't need to open the package. Can anyone thinks they got the Sony DVD-R confirm this?

Just bought a 50pack spindle (black base on the spindle). It was shrink wrapped- but I could still read the DVD ring. AV2K and Sony - burns at 2x on my A05. Not bad still for $49.99 for 50 disks. Best 2X bargin there is to date {for me}.

PS - The Ritek03 spindle I got a few weeka ago, had a light grey base to the spindle. Both were shrunk wrapped.

You might want to change the title.

The 50 pack spindle is at $39.99 at my local PC-Club. And they are still the 2x Sony (burns 2x in my A05).

Anyone have experience with the 25 pack or 50 pack via mail order? (There are no local PC Club stores here in Pennsylvania.)

I'd really love to get ahold of a couple 50 packs if they are 2x. $90.98 incl shipping ain't shabby at all for 2x media.

I bought a 50 pack today in the Carlsbad, CA store for $40. You can't read the disc labels without opening the packaging but mine are AV1K by Sony and burn fine at 2x in my Cendyne with 1.21 firmware

Yes you can. there are two places with writing. On the center ring (usually blocked). And on the small strip ring between the center, and the media.

RITEK03 (DR-47G-02888 written on the very inner media)
The inner ring written in black C1-6L166207118220D17

Sony = K1-3083 10MAK (written on inside rim backwards - you will know when you see it. The inner ring written in black A2VK4309K172 (look for A2VK).

Sony = K1-3083 10MAK (written on inside rim backwards - you will know when you see it. The inner ring written in black A1VK4308K042 (Look for A1VK).

A few days ago I got a 50 spindle and they turned out to be A2VK. Nero 5.5.10.0 reads my Cendyne DVR 105 (firmware 1.21) as x4 when there is no media inserted, but once I put a A2VK it only allows me to select x1. Is anyone having a similar problem? Do I need a newer version of Nero? Any help is greatly appreciated.

That's the same version of NERO I have, but I left my firmware at 1.0 which came with the drive.

Funny thing, I went to update my firmware and the program told me it was already at 1.21. Is it possible to revert back?

nope you cannot revert back, Pioneer says so..... I've never heard of anyone saying that one can but i guess that doesn't mean that it can't be done.....

its not a problem w/ nero..... that will happen w/ any burning program that you use..... when put in the sony's that I got from PC clue the write speed changes from 4x to 2x. But now I hear they're starting to ship out Lead Data dvd-r's that burn at 1x instead of the sony's so beware!! Lucky for me I got 4 50-packs when I could :D

the 25pk that I got from PC Club reads as 2x in Nero. I just got my 50pk, and those apparently are Sony's also.
