Yeah, CC didn't let me do it either. They said they'd only Price Match it after rebates. I was a little irritated.

Eric

I doubt anyone who bought pc2100 got pc2700 this time around. If they are samsung chips on the pcb and say TCB3 then they are 2700, if it says TCB0 then it's 2100.

Just got done doing the CC deal. Took my CUSA ad in and they PM the 110% for $33.99 + tax. Then, there's the $30 in rebates which make it $3.99 + tax after rebate. What a deal! Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

The only bad thing is that they didn't have any mismarked PC2700 RAM. Oh well. I might check another CC within the next couple of days and see if I can find one to exchange this package with.

Thanks again.

Sal

Got one at CUSA.
256MB for $39
- $20 rebate
= $19.99

The rebate is not printed on the flyer, but it is on the form with the PNY Video Card! 256MB PC2700 @ $20 is HOT!

Yeah, make sure its a TCB3 on a Samsuang chip. Its DDR333, and TCB0 is DDR266.
I've got TCB3 on this deal but it only goes to 180 (360). A bit of a disappointment but
at this price I am not complaining. 🙂

What are the chip markings?

My CC has one stick left and they wanted to sell it to me for $69.99 (after I showed them the COMPUSA ad) and have me mail in the $30.00 rebate.....uh; I said no thanks and headed for the door. Anyone with any ideas on how I can get it for as cheap as Sal please let me know here in the forum. Thanks in advance!

Can some one link me to the rebates for CC? I herd someone found a 20 and a 10 somewhere. Thanks!! mine is the TCB0, oh well....i'm happy

Go to circuitcity.com and search for "pny 256mb ddr" and you'll see the two rebates.

The links have session id and won't work even if posted.

What is important with this type of ram is the last few numbers on the chips. PNY sells samsung, hynix, elixir, and infineon chips. PNY is just a reseller. Heres what to look for:

On elixir chips, they are all pc2100/266. The 75 at the end of the markings denotes that it is a 7.5ns chip, which can barely do pc2100 speeds as is. Stay away from these.

On infineon chips the markings end in -7.5, -7, or -6. The -7.5 and -7 are respectively 7.5 and 7ns chips that are not pc2700. The 7ns can do roughly 143fsb/drr286. The 6ns is pc2700, I grabbed two of these today.

On samsung chips the ones ending in TCB3 are pc2700 but there are a couple TCB0 that can do pc2700 speeds although its best to find a tcb3. Avoid the tcb0 like the plauge.

Hynix chips are fairly rare in pny ram and I havent seen anything but 128mb ddr with them. The clock speed is unkown but hynix makes good fast ram and I'd like to see what it can do.

summary: if the ram markings end in "-6" or TCB3 BUY IT!

your scaring me...wuts wrong with the TCB-0??

On another note...will the CC rebate work?? I mean the recpit says Qty 2 memory @ 39.98......when it should be really @109 each. Will they still send out 60 bucks of rebate out to me??Doesn't feel like they would.

not a thing will still run at DDR266(pc2100) (possibly faster..as always YMMV..) and some were used in Corsair pc2700 modules ( early revisions tho..) TCB0 is 2100..TCB3 is decidedly 2700(DDR333)

Okay, went back CC and I found the floor manager. He looked at the COMPUSA ad and did the 110 % PM so I got it for $33.99 before tax but they did not give me a CC rebate with my receipt. Can I use the "online" CC rebates to get $30.00 more off or will they reject me...?? $33.99 is still good.

Thanks Error1000101 !! I my haste to score I forgot to say thanks for the deal.

nothing really, just the fact that its a HUGE YMMV because the speed these can do varies widely. It would be much better to just find a place selling -6 or tcb3, although its likely one store will have a variety, one place I went to today had 3 diffrent manufacturers, 4 diffrent chips (luckily one was an infineon -6 😀 ) If you arent concerned with running it faster than 266/pc2100 then by all means its a great chip.

I would assume they would only send out 30 dollars because the rebates do say "limit 1 per household"...

I called and verified the price at CompUSA and then called BB to verify that they had it in stock. It would save a few bucks and about 18 miles. When I got to BB they "attemped" to call CompUSA and they said the salesperson told them it was $79 and $39 after rebate. Total BS! So I went to CUSA and bought the last one.

I am now going to go back to BB tomorrow with receipt. Hmmm...wonder what story they will give me tommorow. The stick I did get has Samsung chips and is labeled 333, the chips read TCB3. New to DDR and this is the last item needed for my son's u-build-it Christmas kit.

Went to Office Max and they pricematched with no problem. I went to CC and found one with the 333 markings on the back. Some kid called Compusa and said the ad was a misprint. A no go. I will go back tommorrow and try again.

What are the CAS settings on these? Or does it matter?

I've got two sticks of DDR2100 in my case now, Dane-Electric from Newegg. I went for pretty cheap, but it's working fine... OC's a bit too. Anyhow it's "CL-2". I'm dangerous with PC's in general, but not all too familiar with RAM settings. Would these (if I get the right package) somehow drag down the speeds of what I have already?

For those of you that did the PM at CC and didn't get the print out of the rebate forms, just go to CC's site and enter PYT D256M6421OPT into the search engine and it will pull up the RAM that we bought. Below the description is both links for the $10 and $20 MIR. One is a CC rebate ($10) and the other is a manufacturer's ($20) rebate. I would've linked the rebates, but CC's site times out and the links would be worthless.

I went out tonight and bought 2 more sticks of RAM. I hit the BB and CC in Racine, Wi mainly because they are right next to each other. I went in and did the PM to my earlier CC receipt for the $33.99 price, but when the rebate forms spit out, the CSR's sort of looked at each other funny and they kept the forms. That's ok.. I maxed out my rebate eligability already from earlier. Still no luck at this point finding the DDR333 RAM though.

So.. I head right next door to the BB and look through all their RAM. Bingo! I find the nearly mythical DDR333 RAM packaged in the DDR266 box. Yeah!!

I take what I need up to the counter and try to PM CC next door. They run it by a couple of the techs (glorified ex-fast food drive up window employees IMO) and you can see them smirking and probably saying to themeselves "this guy is nuts if he thinks that we're going to give him $66 off our $99 RAM". They call over to CC and they told him that their price was $99 too, but they are all out of stock. Doh! I just bought the last 2 sticks on the shelf. They say that under their so-called PM policy, that the competitor has to have the item in stock. Well.. Ok. So much for getting BB to PM the $33.99 price.

So.. I then pull out the CUSA ad and try to get them to PM to the $39.99 price. They look up the phone number in the phone book to the nearest CUSA and try giving them a call. Of course they are closed right now, so they said that they couldn't do the PM on that either until they could verify the price. They couldn't get through to CUSA anyway during store hours. Believe me.. I've tried and it wasn't during the holidays either. Anyway.. I said, fine. I'll buy it at full price then. Ouch! $99 a stick at 4 sticks = $400 + tax on my card.

Well.. Here I am with 4 sticks of DDR266 from CC and 4 sticks from BB. Both identicle packages, but the BB RAM has the DDR333. Guess which RAM BB is getting back when I go get my $400 credited back to my card? 😉

Side note.. Tonight just confirmed that BB has a bunch of tools working for them. I've never had so much trouble with employees before. They act like I'm buying their car and I'm trying to talk them down. WTF do they care? I did tell the CSR's that I appreciated them wasting my time and then I told them that I don't buy anything from BB anyway unless I can PM to them. I told them that their prices suck most of the time. This was after they were saying that they couldn't believe that a competitor beat their price and by this much. Well.. Their competitors beat their prices all the time. I had store credit from last year that I hadn't been able to use until recently at the Black Friday sale.

Ok.. I'm rambling now.. 😉 Thanks for listening. 🙂
