LAST DAY (12/18) PNY 256MB PC2700 (DDR333) for $19.99 or less

Sorry for posting again so soon, but is this RAM marked DDR333 (TCB3) really PC2700 RAM stuck in the wrong box? I just wanted to hear from someone that has tried this RAM in their machine already.
your scaring me...wuts wrong with the TCB-0??
Nothing's wrong with it if you don't mind getting PC2100 RAM from what I hear. That's what the TCB0 is, correct? The Samsung DDR266 PC2100 RAM.

BTW.. I'd say that this is a pretty big screw up on PNY's part. I'm no RAM expert, but what if someone buys PC2100 RAM, expecting to get PC2100 RAM and ends up putting the PC2700 RAM in their computer instead? Will it hurt the machine or just not work to the potential of the RAM? In other words, is putting PC2700 RAM (DDR333) in a machine designed for PC2100 (DDR266) like putting PC133 RAM in a machine designed for PC100? It will work, but the machine can't use the faster RAM to the full potential. Correct?

TIA,

Sal

dang! I got this deal from the second staples store I went. The first store gave me crap, store manager won't honor pricematch. The other store gave me the 110% PM without any questions.

That's not all, the DDR266 stick I got was one of the mislabeled DDR266. It is actually DDR333, Infineon brand(-6).

So all in all, $17 including tax for a DDR333 256MB. Sweet!

I am going to try CC, $30 rebate sounds good.

How do you know which Infineon brand is DDR333? Is it marked DDR333 like the Samsung TCB3's are or is there another way to tell?

The CC $3.99 + tax after rebates is damn tought to beat. Well.. Except for the OD PNY debacle where we ended up getting paid $17 after rebates per stick of PC2100 RAM. 😉 $33.99 is a great price already (with RAM prices the way they are now), so I wouldn't be heart broken if the rebates didn't go through, but I really don't think I'll have a problem. I haven't had a problem yet with a rebate because of price and some of them have been where the company was giving me back more money than I spent in the first place.

Ok.. I guess any of the RAM with Elixir chips isn't DDR333 then. 😉

I know the markings on the Samsung DDR333 (TCB3), especially because the actual sticker says DDR333, but with the Infineon, does the sticker say DDR333 or do you have to look at the model number on the RAM?

All those digits make my head hurt. 😉

TIA,

Sal

i went on a crazy drive around town to compusa best buy and circuit city.

all of them only had the spectec -75A so thats basically crucial pc2100s. a few packages were -7 infineon, and one circuit city had a bunch of elixer crap memory.

my friend and i did score one pair of samsung tcb3 at one circuit city . some guy cleaned out best buy they didnt even have any ram, and well ram was $99 for 256mb there so yeah ...

the samsung did not have a sticker at all, the only ones that actually had a sticker indicating speed were the spectek ones that compusa did.

RE:"Some kid called Compusa and said the ad was a misprint. A no go. I will go back tommorrow and try again."

THAT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME AT ALL.

What are the CAS settings on these? Or does it matter?

I've got two sticks of DDR2100 in my case now, Dane-Electric from Newegg. I went for pretty cheap, but it's working fine... OC's a bit too. Anyhow it's "CL-2". I'm dangerous with PC's in general, but not all too familiar with RAM settings. Would these (if I get the right package) somehow drag down the speeds of what I have already?

varies by chips. the infineon-6 do 166/333 (pc2700) at 2.5

edit: ah yes, if you add cas 2.5 or 3 memory, you must run at the lower speed, you cant run two diffrent speeds. so yes, this would slightly drag down your performance.

Always look at the markings on the chip not the sticker. I've got two identical sticks sitting here, one sticker says pc133 one says pc333, both are the exact same infineon 6ns (pc2700) chips. Read my post near the bottom of the first page for a guide on finding the right chips.

oh and those wondering about the packaging and such, here is a pic of the memory, this is an infineon 6ns (pc2700) one, the top two chips are blown up so you can see what it looks like.

here not sure why the bottom of the pic looks messed up though, the original I uploaded (tried twice to see if it would fix) looks fine ???

The first Staples in my area also had Spectar chips on the ram ending with -75A and it was the only one they had left too. So exactly how good are these compared to the ones mentioned uptop elixir, infineon, samsung etc. Which group would the Spectar chip belong in?

Thanx

That's the same exact module I got. Now I am running at 360 Mhz DDR on my P4 , no problems at 2.5-2-2-2. I can run at 2-5-2-2 but my PC reboots occassionally(probably needs more DDR voltage). I haven't tried going past 360 Mhz yet. I'll do some more tests later this week.

Now, I can use my old Corsair XMSPC3200C2 256 MB on an AMD platform I am building. DDR434, here I come . . .

This spectec is the same as Crucial?

How does Crucial PC2700 RAM stack up against the Samsung TCB3 PC2700?

BTW.. I was looking at the sticker on the RAM and the chips. The chips on my PNY Samsung RAM end in TCB3 instead of TCB0, so I assume that I got the DDR333 RAM. Is this correct?

I'm going to have to look at the other RAM that I got. All I know is that it wasn't Samsung, so I didn't know what the markings meant. I think I have one Elixir though and I know that this is crap from when I was looking at RAM during an OD deal a few months back.

Read my post near the bottom of the first page for a guide on finding the right chips.
Heh.. Bottom of first page? I'm still on page 1 for this thread. Our settings for the number of posts per page must be different. 😉 I'll find your post anyway. Thanks. 🙂

Thanks again.

I got four sticks, one of them is infineon and it does has a label saying 256MB DDR DIMM PC333 🙂

Ok k1114 I've got a new one for you. I just looked at my RAM and I have 1 Elixir, 1 Spectec "superman logo", 1 Samsung TCB0 and a couple of chips that don't have any names, but they have a logo with a circle that has what appears to be a Rubics Cube off to the left of the circle, partially in the circle and partially out of the circle. Have any idea what these chips are? I looked up Hynix and their RAM markings don't look like this.

Also.. On the Samsung TCB3 DDR333's, I noticed that there are two different sizes of letters and numbers. I thought that I was crazy at first because I could hardly read the numbers on one stick of TCB3 RAM, but the other was easy to read. Does this mean anything? Is one a preferrable production run or something? Just checking because you never know.

Thanks again.

Sal

RE:"This spectec is the same as Crucial?"

Yes, Spectek is a division of Micron. Like Kingston value is to Kingston. The chips have a big S on them. Usually they have fewer but bigger chips.

I have the PNY TCB3 from a couple months ago and they are DDR333 if you have a compatable chip set on your motherboard, meaning, your motherboard supports this type of ram and not just DDR266 🙂 l8rz all.

yeah i plugged them in and sis sandra says, pc2700 cl2.5 or pc2100 cl2.

i work at staples.. checked through our entire selection of the PNY 2100ddr... none were samsung... something else with an "S" logo, and another set that said "Nanya" on the chips... i got the Nanya chips... how/what are these? eitherway, cant lose for $9.99 after rebate 🙂
