In Sunday's (12/15) ad CompUSA has PNY 256MB PC2100 (DDD266) Ram for $39.99.
Now, thats a good deal on namebrand ram from a retail store, but my title was DDR333 wasnt it?

Well, thanks to the crack shipping team and PNY, they have mistakenly shipped DDR333 memory in DDR266 boxes !!

If you flip the ram package over you will see a label on the stick of ram. It will either say DDDR266 or DDR333 - the labels are correct. The 333 sticks have the same samsung ddr chips on them that PNY's (Marked) 333 boxes have on them. As this is a only shipping fubar, your local's store stock may varry; its possible your store may not have any 333 chips in 266 boxes!

Since pricewatch's lowest price on this memory is $53 this is a steal !!

As a warning, stores have limited quantites of these 2100 (or really 2700) chips in stock, so you may want to get there early to try and search through thier stock. Most stores should open at 10am for extened holiday hours. Im sure they'll give you some strange looks if you ask to look at all the boxes :)

As a side note, a few months ago when Visiontek was making ram (and when it was still around) the sometimes shipped ddr 2100 512mb's in sdram pc133 boxes, also a great deal. I guess its hard to find quality people to put the right stick of ram in the correct boxes.

I got samsung pc2700 in pny pc2100 ram a while ago at circuit city for $25 AR. I think pny fixed this problem as they now sell official pc2700 ram.

He is right.. back of stick the label says: 256mb DDR333B, DIMM,N
32wnd, stk 4735237

Can anyone verify these #'s on the memory itself ? Samsung 244 / k4h560838D -tcb3

not bad.. 256 ddr 333 for 39.99$ no rebate needed.

Now if we could only dig up a rebate somewhere and get MORE off...

I also got in on that deal for 256 PNY 2700 in 2100 package for like $22 @ CC. $44 for 512MB PNY 2700 ram was the best hot deal I ever got in on. enough bragging :p

Do you think that CC still has the PC2700 RAM in the PC2100 boxes? I've got a CC about 2 minutes from me and that would work much better than driving 20 minutes to CUSA. The price would be better too with the 110% price difference.

This kind of thing is strictly YMMV. In some products, such as RAM, a lower grade part is merely one that did not pass final tests to qualify for a better grade. There is nothing wrong when a company that substitutes a higher grade part to meet specific purchase orders from their customers. In the case of RAM, this means marking DDR333 RAM as DDR266 and selling it for the lower price.

This isn't so much a hot deal as a heads up that you may be lucky enough to get a better product than you pay for. :)

Wow, how did u get the 512mb for $44? I am tired of getting 256mb sticks, ruining my overclocking with more than 1 stick but i refuse to pay $100+ for a ram stick.

I checked modules at CompUSA and nothing good there. So I went to BB and indeed found 256MB DDR333 module packed
as PNY DDR266. So I bought one and pricematched it to CmpUSA.

PNY packing team seems to put these modules all over the place. BB had the same 256MB DDR333 module
packed as PNY 512MB DDR266. So watch out.

I found one at the Compusa in Sunrise, but I wanted 2 so I left it for someone else. There had to be at least 25 boxes on the shelf and others under it but the guy would only look at 8 of them.
After I left, I realized I could prolly price match to best Buy across the street. I think they have it at 69.99 less a $30 rebate. So, if you get there before me there is 1 left, unless someone picked it up for their granny.

I tried that at my CC, no go...they only pulled of 110% after rebates, or $33. I'll be taking that one back as I got two at Staples as follows:

$89.94
-49.95 PM
+12.94 Sony 30 Pack CDR
-10 Sony MIR
-20 Staples PNY Rebate
-10 Staples coupon
= $12.93 + Tax :D

Picked up 2 sticks for 73 both of them 333 Samsung 2 left in Santa Barbara, CA CC if there is anyone from around here.

*Edit* Forgot to mention comes with 2 rebates a 10 from CC and a 20 from PNY the CC says it only requires a Copy of the UPC so if you only buy 1 stick you get it for 34-10-20 so less than 10 bucks with tax!

The memory is actually $19.99 after $20 mail in rebate at CompUSA
Look for the PNY Video Card & Memory Rebate; it has the DDR 2100 listed for $20 mail in rebate

I was thinking of getting some really nice Corsair memory, but i just cant pass this up at only $20 a chip
