6970-250w>6950-220W>580=6970>570>6950

Aha! No-one said anything like that did they. Do I get a cookie?

My predictions:

1) nVidia fanboys will point out that the GTX580 is faster than the 6970 in the majority of tests, ignoring the price difference between the two cards.
2) AMD fanboys will point to the 1 test that shows the 6970 is marginally faster than the GTX580 and champion it as proof that they've "won". Also, they will have shed their tree hugging ways no longer care about TDP.
3) "Someone" will post another thread detailing the slight IQ difference in 4 year old games that you can only see on a 40" monitor with the game paused and zoomed in 120%.
4) Idontcare will give me a warning for #3 because he considers it a personal attack. 😉
5) About 6 posters will account for 85% of the posts in the review thread.
6) A "Why the 6950 was right for me!" thread will appear within 2 weeks, followed 2 weeks later by a "Why the GTX560 was right me!".
7) HAWX 2 will still suck.

This is likely the most accurate prediction yet.

8. Kim Kardashian will come out of the anandtech forum ad (ala weird science) and we will do it...then she will complain that the 6970 was disappointing and not a good fit for her mITX rig. I, of course, will get a glowing "review."

We have a winner. Here is an internet cookie.

What did you expect?
With AMD's focus so much om "performance per watt" and cutting out stuff from their GPU's...it has to show up somewhere.

You know like starting to reducing I.Q at same settings, performing less or passing o a lackluster AF solution.

This is the path AMD has taken...should come as no surprise...if you are a realist.

I think it's safe to say that AMD goes for absolute performance as well, but they go about it different than Nvidia. Wasn't the 5970 considered to be the faster part than the GTX480?

You same AMD has cut things out of their GPU, what woudl that be?

Honestly if the "new gen" AMD card cant beat the previous-gen nV card, (its just a fixed 480, right?), it is a sad day in the history of GPU launches.

The performance roll they were one with 4890 and 5870 would appear to be over.

8) In a stunning turn of events, Wreckage will be hired on as the new Executive Director of AMD Graphics Division.
9) In a stunning turn of events, the AMD Graphics Division burns to the ground after a series of fiery explosions.
10) Wreckage disappears to his hidden fortress beneath Lake Baikal in Siberia

That has me laughin' Luv it 🙂
In all likelyhood that might very well be the most accurate prediction of this thread.

Thank you for the laugh.

1) Crossfire isn't a sure hit...neither is its FPS fluxtuations.
2) You do some reading up, there was a nice piece on Anand that included cutting stuff out...sideport was one of the things, sacrifcied on the tree-hugger mentality...

Wasn't needed.

Versus cutting out shaders. or at least disabling them.

I don't think Kim's rig is mITX!😱

Right, CF isn't a sure thing 100% of the time. But a 480 is slower 80% of the time despite this. It seems like you have an odd way of looking at things for someone who claims he only cares about all out performance.

AMD claimed sideport was turned off as it did not add anything to performance. By cutting things out AMD was able to add enough flexibility to be able to put two GPU's on one card. Less equaled more in this case.

You mean like how the GTX580 is still a few percent slower than a 5970? 🙂

The GTX580 *might* be Nvidia's highest end part (unless they do make a dual GF114 part). On the other hand we all know that the 6970 will be the second fastest AMD card.
