laptops

Well, "worth it" all depends on what you're looking for and if a laptop will suit your needs. For example, if you do a lot of processor-intensive work where power is necessary, then a laptop is not for you. However, if you do some basic office tasks and some light gaming and you want a small computer, then a laptop is for you.

If you never leave the house, then you'd be better off with a desktop. If you travel a lot or maybe take some work to home or you need to do work while at home then maybe it is worth it. It's not that they break a lot but they sure are fragile and need gentle handling. If there is any disadvantage with laptop is the fact they are almost non upgradeable when it comes to hardware with the exception of ram and hdd.

Weren't there suppose to be laptops where you could change your graphics card and all kind of stuff pretty easily? I remember reading about something like that.

Since most are surface mounted still, the answer is no. If you don't need mobility, you don't need a laptop. There are compromises that must be considered to make a package lightweight and portable. Drives are smaller, slower, and more expensive. Because cooling is an issue, higher clock rates for performance parts are not available. If you don't plan to carry it around get a desktop. If it is the size that bugs you, look into a Small Form Factor like a Shuttle or a Hornet (Monarch).

I'm at uni, and in my flat of 6 people, I'm the only one with a desktop/without a laptop.
Everyone elses laptop sits on their desk, and AFAIK they've never taken them to lectures or anything to use them there, so they may as well have desktops.

Wow way to clarify things OP....

I would say that a loptop is well woth having!!!!

the only downside is unless you spend a ton of money on one don't expect great performance out of games on it.

Sorry.

I do plan on gaming on it because I want to have something to beable to do. I hate being bored and not having a pc. At least with games you don't need internet access to play single player!

You can still play games, but not at a spectacular speed.
