Since most are surface mounted still, the answer is no. If you don't need mobility, you don't need a laptop. There are compromises that must be considered to make a package lightweight and portable. Drives are smaller, slower, and more expensive. Because cooling is an issue, higher clock rates for performance parts are not available. If you don't plan to carry it around get a desktop. Weren't there suppose to be laptops where you could change your graphics card and all kind of stuff pretty easily? I remember reading about something like that.

I do plan on gaming on it because I want to have something to beable to do. I hate being bored and not having a pc. At least with games you don't need internet access to play single player!

You can still play games, but not at a spectacular speed.
