Laptop performance

I posted in hardware but they advised to post in software

my laptop is running very slow
i keep it up to date with spy ware and virus protection

but my core 1 and core 2 "meter" is always running high.
i am not using any cpu intensive programs.

i do not know where to even start
please advise

Laptop Specs:
Cpu T7500
Ram: 3gb

OS: vista sp1

please let me know what else i should post...

Go dig up some utilities ( I will post one tomorrow) that allow you to see what is utilizing your system. From there, you may be able to identify the culprit(s).

That sentence right there discredits anything that guide might have to offer.
 
You could start by disabiling indexing.

Vista is bloatware. There isn't too much you can do about it. XP is a better laptop os IMO.

Also, install spy sweeper and avast.

Click 'start' then in the search box type 'msconfig' (no quotes), then disable everything in the startup tab (don't touch the services).
