Anybody surprised?

Yeah, me neither. Protect cops at all costs.

""This killing appears to have been unintended and unforeseeable," the report states. "Officer Jones' intent in shooting Mr. Elena Lopez transferred to the unintended killing of Ms. Orellana Peralta, and thus no charges relating to her death can pr proved beyond a reasonable doubt.""

Are they suggesting that a very sneaky killer might have foresaw the circumstances and made it look like a ricocheted bullet from the cop's rifle?

"The report, however, recommends that the LAPD should consider updating their communication training bulletin and any related training to account for the type of situation that resulted in Orellana Peralta's death."

So faulty training accounts for the cop not-beyond-a-reasonable-doubt killing the girl? Reeeeeally

My understanding is that LAPD saw an imminent threat, and acted without haste to neutralize the attacker. They "didn't have time" to stop to consider public safety. It seems like a freak accident and there's no way the D.A. would have won a conviction against the cop. It's arguable whether the responding officers exercised proper caution, but that's kind of how it goes in the U.S. Apples and oranges, but people still prefer LEOs go in guns blazing than for an entire battalion of guys holding back like they did during the Uvalde school massacre.

To be clear, I'm not excusing what happened, but just repeating what the report concluded. There's no justice for the family of the victim.

The story posted yesterday about the 15-year-old girl shot dead by SB County sheriffs after a high-speed car chase is a lot worse IMO.

Expected result, even when it’s intentional there’s a good chance they walk.

This was criminal, hope the family pursues civil charges against the department. The article says only one shot followed department policy
