Landlord just dropped by...at 9 o'clock at night

F that. I don't like mowing lawns and I hate unexpected bills. He just had to shell out $500 for a new fridge because the old one died. Plus I'm still planning on moving to AZ once lil rudeguy turns 18.

You also hate landlord visits, so I guess it's up to you.

...and he almost got a surprise.

I'm out on the deck smoking and lil rudeguy tells me the landlord is here. WTF? I didn't call him. I peek my head out the door and don't see anyone. Hmmm...maybe it wasn't the landlord. I debated going inside to arm myself before going out but decided against it.

Finally when I turned on the porch light he pops out from around the corner of the house. I ask if I can help him and he says no. WtF again! He then says he was looking at the fascia that he had fixed. At 9 pm?

I made it clear that 9 pm was not the time to do that and walked away. Next time he comes around this late for no reason I'm calling the cops. This isn't the first time he's done weird stuff and I might need to start a paper trail.

Bongloads?

It's his property and he can do whatever he wants.

The sense of entitlement of tenants in Amercia is amazing. San Francisco is the worst.

Unrelated, but just wanted to run a hypothetical by those who take the above stance against the op's story, see where you stand:

Landlord knocks on the door at night, tenants do not answer. Landlord drives truck across the lawn & right up to the master bedroom window, high beams/horn etc. until they come to the door. Fair or foul?

so your comparing your dumb scenario vs. a landlord coming by and just wanting to visibly examine a repair made to the outside of the house.

Riiiight. Dumb scenario is so dumb it does not deserve an answer, only acknowledgment that you are dumb.

Again.. please explain how he would inspect something when it's dark out, no porch light and no flashlight?

Even at 9 pm? He doesn't work, so there is no reason to come this late.

If he was inside the house uninvited, I would be on the news.

Personally, knowing the crap you post here I'd have never rented to you at all. If I somehow got duped, I'd be swinging by at least weekly making sure you are destroying or selling off my property.

Set up and port forwarding went well?

Not well. Their instructions were written half assed. I got all kinds of screwed up trying to follow them.

Once I pitched their instructions and went with common sense, it took 5 minutes. Paid $3 for and Android app because Ross was wrong, the model linked to that I bought doesn't support video capture. So the app has alarm, email, video capture and full controls. Plus it has a widget 🙂

Come creeping now landlord

If he is renting it he does.

A good lease will state the renter is not allowed to make major modifications to the apartment without permission.

However, if this is something that is very easy to remove, then fine. It's another story if it some complex camera which requires a more thorough, permanent-like installation with wiring to run, drilling into the siding of the building and installing mounting hardware, etc.

Most tenants will do hack-job type installations leaving you with a mess when it comes time to remove it all and get it back to normal.

I live in a house

It's amazing that whenever you have a discussion about leasing property, all of the internet jackasses come out of the woodwork spouting asinine crap like "uhmmm it's his property dood! The landlord can do whatever he/she wants" As if lessees have absolutely no rights to anything what so ever and they just pay rent every month as a charity.

When you are leasing property whether it's land or equipment, YOU are the customer and you should be treated as one. Not the other way around.

lol, go find somewhere else to rent.

What an idiot.

No one is really buying in the cheap seats. If you HAD money you would pick up property now, it's really cheap.

If you are meant to rent, prepare your anus.

oh, don't try to butter it up with you leasing....you are just renting.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about 🙂

Leasing is a contract to grant the temporary use of property and/or the right to occupancy in exchange for rent.

Obvious troll is obvious.
