Actually, your landlord is supposed to pay interest on the deposit too (at least in MN).

that varies by state, here in CA for example I dont' think they have to.

I just wanted to say that I have always had problems with getting my apartment deposits back. I was explaining this to my husband, who never quite believed me. Thanks once again to Anandtech for being there to prove me right! Thanks guys. Also the apartment that we have been discussing is the cleanest apartment I've ever seen and I'm wondering what their hourly fee is??? ;)

I don't have a gun :) :)

Do you have gas???
I would burn that Sumbiaaatch down. When I was in that situtation I waited and walked through with the personel to insure that i didnt get railroaded. I typed up a makeshift document and had it notorized that my place was clean to match their contract. I hope you get the money!!

gJ kevin! You seriously owned them. That stove looked clean enough to lick.

My apartment when we left I cleaned it - actually the last two we've had - but I didn't go crazy on it like steam the carpets or anything. Reason being when somebody leaves they do all that again and paint the walls. They subtract deposits for DAMAGE (and not standard minimal damage a person is likely to get from living somewhere), and SERIOUS filth. In your case it's clear that you were owed the entire deposit back and I'm glad to see you're getting it :p
