I agree PJ Brown is who they should go after not Malone.

Yeah, they should. Would be nice if the Lakers got Ben Wallace:D Now that wouldn't be fair.

it'd be great to have malone and payton...but i think malone would ask for shots...payton would just get his 15 points on open jumpers since he can actually hit them, + fast break layups and posting up small guards....but his assists would be down

but if we do get payton, i'd rather have a guy like pj brown then malone, unless malone doesn't care about the 10points he'll score...

Frankly, the Lakers might need Payton (or any other decent point guard) more than they need Malone. Malone would be a good addition for any team, but power forwards are a dime a dozen right now (especially in the western conference) and good point guards are more than a bit scarce.
Of course, the Lakers with anyone besides Kobe and Shaq able to score (which completely disappeared last season) are formidable.

i wish the spurs would go for payton instead of kidd, by the time payton is finished tony parker will be awesome. plus that would free up some cap, get mourning for a year, then go after garnett, bwhahaha. If the lakers have a shaq in shape, kobe, payton, and malone, they'll be unstoppable. They're just missing a guard that can shoot 3s, anyone? probably just go hire any european or white guy, lol.

now only if dennis rodman will come back in playing form....that'll be a crazy line up no?...rodman, shaq, malone in front...kobe, payton back.......bench is fisher, george, madsen, horry, rush, pargo, cook, walton.......and phil jackson head coach.....

:Q :Q :Q

well of course rodman won't come back....but shaq and kobe...AND payton..AND malone...that is one heck of a team...if they can get the triangle down...i don't see how this team can lose any game ever......it's basically an all-star team... remember one time during the 80's ..that crazy laker team? magic johnson, kareem abdul jabar (sp??), james worthy, micheal cooper..that was an awesome team....

Piatkowski from the Clippers?

Lives in LA already, maybe he'd sign on for cheap to win a championship.

He'll probably be traded to get Payton and possibly a good PF, be it Malone or Brown.

Assuming Payton is a Laker and is healthy for the next 3 seasons (that'll probably be the length of Payton's contract) along with Shaq and Kobe, I can easily see 3 more Laker rings. Though, I'm really anxious to see what the Spurs do with all that cap.

All you guys are sitting there thinking how good the Lakers will be with 2 more scorers. Fact is, the Lakers would be worse with another main player, not better. The NBA revolves around having a superstar or 2 and then having good SUPPORT players. Add more scorers and they're just going to add problems to the team. There's not going to be enough basketballs to go around. The exception is a good point guard willing to distribute like Jason I beat my wife and Kidd. Anyone who wants to score or has been a main guy in a different system in his career will absolutely be worse than who the Lakers have now because there's not going to be enough basketballs to go around. No one with any pride, like a superstar, is going to accept being a 3rd option in LA averaging 10 points a game if that. Example Glenn Rice. That guy was awesome before he got to LA. The Lakers are best with role players and players who play hard. I personally hope they add a Malone and a Payton...the team will be worse...I hate the Lakers. Just wait, your role players aren't that bad....they just fit their roles perfectly. They aren't allowed to excel with Kobe and Shaq. Think, Kobe and Shaq already bicker...what does adding another superstar do?

kobe and shaq can only account for 2/3rds of the teams points. the other 1/3 have to be made by the role players. frankly the lakers role players, although talented in my opinion, are still very very inconsistent. if you watch the lakers through the past season, whenever the role players put up their points, the lakers are unstoppable (regardless if it's kings, spurs, or mavs). with the addition of payton and malone, we have two very consistent role players. obviously they cannot expect to sign with the lakers and be the "go to guy." that's an obvious. malone only needs 12-13 pts a game which he will get as the starting PF. payton averages 18 points a game. the number will significantly go down. i see maybe an average of 10 pts for him. PGs are not supposed to be the main scorer anyways but seeing as how he's the go to guy on every other team he's been on, this may be the biggest problem when trying to sign him. if he does sign then he must have agreed to play a less significant role. thus in the end, i highly doubt there will be a scoring/ego conflict.

im assuming if kobe decides to average 7 assists a game which he prooved he could do last year, with payton averaging something like 7 also like the bucks did last year , kobe could average say 25 ppg, payton 15 ppg.

shaq could try being less of a scorer like wilt chamberlain did towards the end of his career say he averages 20 and saves it for the playoffs.

last year samaki walker, fisher , shaq and kobe averaged about 80 ppg. if shaq averages say 22, kobe 25, malone the 13 he needs and payton like 15 . thats 75ppg . it can work out fine. kobe had to average more since the team sucked so hard last year. hes not going for some scoring record or something, i think he can score less than the previous season and not feel bad (i.e. the 3rd championship year, vs. the 2nd championship year)

Malone is more of a jump shooter now, and his defense isn't great. I'm not sure if the Lakers need him. Payton, otoh, would make them awesome. He can still drive and score with the best of them, and his penetrations would make defending the Lakers a nightmare. Fisher then becomes a bench player and the Lakers have more depth. As a Dallas fan, I am more scare of Payton going to LA than Malone.

whoever drafted samaki above kobe should be shot. that's one of the reasons why i never believe in the hype until i see the player perform. <cough> lebron <cough>

down to 33% now. (without knowning any other factors.)

They might get Payton then. The only coaching staff that he halfway got along with was the Supersonics under Nate McMillan. This is because McMillan already had alot of respect and was a former team member and captain. Going to LA is probably what he needs

Does Payton still have a lot of game left in him?

He's not that old, 35 I think.
