Just remember, whenever republicans talk up coal, it's about the remaining 6 or 8 old-ass men across the country that still own all of the coal mines. It's not about the people that work for them, or the mines themselves, it's about making sure those 8 assholes are able to retain as much of the wealth extracted from those mines as possible, all while the inevitable end of coal occurs as the market has fundamentally rejected it.
This is why nothing has ever improved for actual miners. The GOP protects the financial interests of the handful, because there is nothing they prefer more than exploiting the endemic misery of the population created by the extraction of their own personal wealth. I agree in general. It seems to me the pain has been there and felt for a long time. Cognitive dissonance associated with their preconceived notions of political values seems to lead many conservatives to misplace their blame, and generally care more about social issues.

It's a pretty straightforward proposition. Create a fund to do just that. So when business entities file for bankruptcy outstanding wages & employment based taxes are paid immediately from the fund which becomes the top non-discountable creditor. Charge a high rate of interest on the loan. It would be a rare occurrence for the govt to actually lose money doing so.

To be clear, I'm not blaming the GOP for the failure of the coal industry (it's just natural progression), but there's about as much chance of the GOP doing anything for the average worker as there is of Trump praising Ilhan Omar. People keep voting for them though, so it ain't gonna get better.

I already did...sort of. Make employee wages the FIRST thing that gets paid in bankruptcy. Not the banks, not the other secured creditors, the employees.
Except that it all gets tied up for months or years, even for the people who get paid first. Liquidated workers need their pay ASAP & there's no cash in corporate coffers to pay them so it has to come from another source in the short run. It's the only way I can think of to bridge the gap. It's an issue of liquidity, not resources. The fund's claim would trump all others.
They were SUPPOSED to have such an account but it was found out as they went into shutdown it was never established.
Unfortunately the government does not just step in and handle the payroll, hopefully a court jugment will be forced on these assholes sooner rather than later.

That's the saddest part. Ignorance is supposed to be bliss yet we constantly see the total opposite from these stupid motherfuckers (especially him). The thing is, they know they're fucking dumb (hell half the time they wear that as a badge of honor until people point out its not really something to be proud of, especially since it requires less effort to be less dumb than the effort they're already putting forth to be that dumb), they just think everyone else is as dumb as they are, so it makes them mad when they're constantly faced with evidence refuting that. But then its like they get off on being stupid and angry. They remind me of serial killers that become the monsters they are because they find they're impotent during sex, which makes them lash out, wherein they find out that committing rape and murder makes them jizz in their pants. The only thing that makes these clowns happy is popping rage boners.

Where will the jobs be even after a successful re-train?. Hopefully the entire state has learned an important lesson, no one in the GOP gives a rats ass about them (or anyone else not rich).

I’ve never understood the republican push for coal as of late. It’s a dying and dirty industry, why have the government step in and try to save it? The answer no doubt is votes, strategically they need them, but that’s from a politicians perspective. Why does joe blow care about coal so fervently?.
