Paulaner pilsner is one of my favorite beers. It stacks up against any ale, especially in the summer.

A good German or Czech pils is fanfuckingtastic. Straight up 'lagers' usually aren't.

Is Pilsner Urquell really that good or is it the Guinness of Pilsners? Any suggestions on particular labels?

It is kind of like Guinness in that it is much better in the Czech Republic than in the states 🙁. Warsteiner is pretty good (not as good as Paulaner).

I'm not too sure about others to be found in the states. I traveled through Germany for a couple weeks and would always just get the "Pils" on tap. SO GOOD!

My only experience with Paulaner is their Oktoberfest brew...which is excellent. Actually...there really isn't an Oktoberfest brew that that I don't like. Spaten has a nice one that is almost...black in color. It's a great beer. The Oktoberfest brews just have a much more malty, rich flavor than the more traditional German brews that I've had.

Check out their pilsner. It's the only one I've found in the states that is as good as the drafts I'd get in germany. It has a silky, wonderful head and is really spicy. Their Hefe is excellent, too.

The Guinness I had out of the taps in Dublin is no better than the Guinness that I have had in the states. (the porter)

What is good, though, is the Foreign Extra, which has very limited distribution.
