Having never had a polo fall apart or in any other way fail on me, I'm not quite sure how people come to the conclusion that these clothes are higher quality. They rarely back it up, they just say it.

If they didn't have the little crocodiles on them, I don't think Lacoste would be able to get $70 for their "quality" shirts.

I agree, it is always funny how some will argue quality materials and what not till they are blue in the face if they are the ones paying the money...

if you truly want a quality polo then as I said either Brooks, Ben Silver, or even Talbots Men make far better shirts than Lacoste for less money on average...but it is about status and a bit of nostalgia as many remember the alligator from their youth when the products were more available at reasonable prices.
