Lack of fresh fruit

Currently I'm forced to eat at the mess here on the base. The only available fruit that I'm sure of would be cherries and banana's. There's usually a bunch of sliced fruit (graped fruit, oranges, pineapple, etc) but I'm afraid it might just be canned fruit?

So, considering the possibility of it being full of sugar, is it still worth eating or is it pointless?

EDIT: A few more questions.

Is there any point in eating cottage cheese with my meals if I'm already taking protein supplements? I can barely tolerate cottage cheese, even with mixing fruit and whatnot into it. But I eat it anyway.

So, basically I'm trying to figure out what I can get away with eating and not gaining too much fat (salad dressings, drinks, etc).

Canned fruit isn't a bad thing if it's stored in its own juices. If it's stored in syrups, that's when it becomes a problem.

Also, cottage cheese is good for you, but I can't stand it either. Don't eat it if you really, really dislike it that much.

Gaining fat is a function of overall calorie intake. You can eat only fat and not gain fat. Try to eat healthily and eat at your caloric maintenance. That's all that's going to matter.

It's nearly impossible for me to eat at caloric maintenance, since I don't get to prepare any of my own food, and don't get to eat when I want to. All I can hope to do is eat as well as possible with the options given to me.

So I suppose I'll just stick to the fruit and what not. I'm going to have to force myself to eat more vegetables, though.

You do, however, get to eat the amount of food you'd like. I'm telling you to not overeat, essentially.

You could try mixing in some protein powder with your cottage cheese.

Actually this tastes really good. Not sure if you have access to it though.
oats
cottage cheese
splenda
cinnamon(o)
natty pb(o)

mix and eat. tastes good.

SC is right though. You don't have to and shouldn't eat it if you don't like it.
