This guy always has interesting breakdowns on how people’s body’s fail and end up in the ICU.

In this case (from several years ago) the patient ran so many bitcoin rigs in his room during a heat wave with no air conditioning that he suffered heat stroke and brain damage.

Oh Jeezus, I don't need to hear this. I've been running my miners, in like 90F+ heat here in the Northeast, and yes, it gets fuqing hot in here sometimes. Due to power concerns, I don't usually run the A/C unless I have to, in which case, I shut down all but my main two miners.

Ahh, the virtues of "being poor".

Edit: I was and am drinking plenty of Gatorade (mixed from powder), as well as water, and some Stars and Stripes Cola from Dollar Tree, with plenty of ice (I installed an additional shelf in my freezer, and four more ice-cube trays, though I haven't needed all 8 at one time, thankfully.

I've been running the A/C the last few days, and while it does get kind of warm in here, it's fairly bearable.

But for a while last month, I just had the windows open, the A/C just running the fan. I do have an exhaust fan directly behind my mining server, which is exhausting into that fan. I've had to take my shirt off, and sweating like a pig. I am fairly aware of heat-stroke, and somewhat concerned about it. Hence I do normally drink a lot.

However, I DO suddenly "fall asleep" in my chair in the computer room. Then wake up a few hours (or maybe 30 minutes) later, and continue where I left off. Maybe my brain is shutting down. :|

43C in a room. I can't even imagine how horrible that would be, crazy he just kept going without installing A/C. The body tends to give lot of warnings before hitting heat stroke, such as being insanely uncomfortable and miserable.

As long as you were drinking fluids shortly before napping then you should be ok, but if you ever feel nauseous with a headache, get out and drink what you can!

That guy in the video was dumb though, assuming the story was told accurately, it's pretty bloody obvious that if you don't drink for a day (or even some hours) or more in a heatwave, or a hot room, you're going to be in trouble!

you people still do bit coin mining??
Bit coin mining was abolished in the year 2031!
Since I was sent here to observe earthlings it has amused me all the problems associated with bit coin mining!
Those were the days!!

Jesus Hume Christ, Larry. Shut down your computers, drink some WATER- not soda, WATER- and please don't die.

Don't fret, it's in the 70s-to-80s these next few days. I should be able to make it to Winter, where it will heat my apt. :)

Yes, I've been drinking some water too.

Edit: For the record, I've got an A/C that's basically sort-of "shot" at this point, but I can use it as an intake fan, and in the opposite room, I've got a twin window-fan set up as exhaust, and I can open my other window and a door, and get some decent airflow through here. So it's not as if it's stifling.

BTW, who knew that "modern 'mining'" could be as risky as the real thing?

Edit: Thanks for caring! I do try my best to take care of myself. Somehow.

Or get air conditioning. The power usage will be a drop in the bucket compared to the miners anyway. You can get DIY 24,000 BTU mini splits these days, everything is quick connects and they are precharged with refrigerant.

I kind of want to add another 800w of solar to my setup and see if I can run a small unit for my office. Could get away without running the central all day if I'm spending most of my time in here. Been a heat wave basically all summer here, and the science seems to show it's only going to get worse over the years. Canada's largest ice shelf recently collapsed and arctic ice in general is in a lot of trouble. The more of the ice that melts the hotter it will get as it acts as a buffer much like keeping ice in a cooler.

I would argue anyone has brain damage if they are still mining Bitcoin past 2018, unless they were somehow getting/stealing free electricity.

Sitting in the tub is a last ditch effort to stay cool. If he couldnt think of it then maybe he was too dumb to live?
I wouldnt even bother with the ER these days. They're overcrowded and you'll probably get sick just being there.

Before I had A/C if it got bad I would go to the mall lol. But yeah if you are THAT hot and need to cool off fast, tub filled with cold water will do it. Probably best to sit in the tub first and let it fill up so it's not too much of a shock going in. And drink water. His issue was twofold. Too much heat and dehydrated.

Saw this link from the Distributed Computing thread mentioning this and all I can say is yikes! My DC efforts are always on hold once it gets above 75F outside. I'll run them at night if it gets into the high 50's or lower. I'll switch them to running pretty much all the time once we need to have the heat on.

I have a pretty rough night of sleeping once it gets above 78 in the room (I usually keep it around 70 for sleeping). I can't even imagine how I'd be able to sleep in 100+ air!

Where do you live that reaches 75C outside? o_O

Ah, so digital mining has hazards just like coal and other forms of mining if the boss don't care about the miner's welfare.

Also, fans cool by moving heat away from the body. But that motor dissipates heat into the room eventually. Temps go UP.
