The amino acid is a precursor of dopamine and also stimulates melanine which helps giving you a tan instead of burn when sun bathing.

Anybody tried it or knows more about it? What dosage is recommended, both for energy and tanning. What are the pros and cons? Thanks.

My experience lies solely with N-acetyl-L-tyrosine, which is more readily absorbed by the brain. I recommend taking it concurrently with vitamins b and c, or any vitamins that nourish your nervous system. It definitely helps replenish the neurotransmitters. It's a stimulant, so you'll feel more alert. I wouldn't say it gives you energy, just helps your brain work more clearly and ups your mood. There's no aftereffects I can detect. I recommend it for anyone feeling the need for serotonin boost; as an over-the-counter alternative to prescription mood boosters. *edit* Though tyrosine helps, I was actually thinking of 5-HTP here.

It's definitelyl not as powerful as Remeron/mirtazapine - something my doctor prescribes - in boosting serotonin production. I've discovered that if you take n-acetyl l-tyrosine concurrently with mirtazapine it just amplifies the serotonin boost by providing some raw ingredients to work with. I typically take 150mg of n-acetyl l-tyrosine twice daily.

Tanning? Really? Hard to believe ....

I tried more than a few things for energy and anti-depression.
None of them worked.
Talked to doctor, got on Paxil, then Bupropion.
They work.

Keep in mind, theres no oversight on nutritional supplements. The FDA has to approve drugs.

Tyrosine may increase alertness but it does not likely help in depression. The fact that is is converted to dopamine does not already mean that has any any health benefit beyond its basic functions in the body.

Unless if you are severely depressed, I suggest you to not concentrate on "pills" of any kind. Most of depression comes from psychological issues not from organic ones.
