Desperate about what???

The fact that I hate to see this Country destroyed by theologians???

When I compare a Rav 4 a Buick SUV to the Chev Uplander what do I see?
The uplander is a much biger vehicle.

Uplander Rav Buick Rendevous
4470 4070 4096 Heavier
204.30 189.00 186.50 Longer
7 5 5 Seats more

and a much greater interior space and similar gas mileage to much smaller vehicles
I fail to see a valid comparison?
SUV's don't have as good as gas mileage because they typically have heavier powertrains due to all wheel or 4 wheel drive and poorer aerodynamics cause of the increased ground clearance.
Minivans once they get all wheel drive get poorer gas mileage, it isn't rocket science . . .
If you compare a 4X4 SUV of similar interior dimensions to a front wheel minivan it can't come close to a minivan.

People can argue why they want an SUV but in terms of effeciency minvans blow them out of the water when you compromise on the drivetrain and ground clearance.

Well said Desy,

Thanks for the common sense input in a nonsensical arena this place is.

The link is flawed.

Show me 2WD SUV's at 20 mpg, better yet, doing better than a minivan.

Somebody on this forum said that. Now they are desperate because they was so much pwnage that it made them cry. Not only that, but that person also owns a gas guzzler that gets worse mileage than many SUV's!!! bwhahahahaha the irony is hilarious. Then that person started trying to divert attention like the good apologist he is.

We should be getting free oil from them, since we booted saddam out of there for them.

I have never seen wealth like Kuwaitis have in my life and I've been to SA, Japan and some rich areas in CA like San Clemente, Pebble Beach etc.

Every kuwaiti gets a 80K a year stipend from government. They have no intrest at banks. Loans of any amount are vitually guaranteed. They also get *PAID* if they choose to work.. i.e. janitors driving S500's.

I drive a V-6 dodge intrepid? my mom drives a V-8 suburban. She gets about the same MPG as I do. I really don?t see where you guys are getting this ?SUV?s are the devil?. My roommate?s dad drives a ford diesel that gets 30 or so MPG. It?s a dualie big ass ?gas guzzler?. I think most of you don?t realize that fuel efficiency among ALL VEHICLES has improved a lot recently.

Yup I bet mom drives 60 and junior 70 and like a jackass
According to any credible source
Intrepid
24 38
Suburban
17 23

It aint even close
Time to give the Intrepid a tune up maybe?

I see Secretary of Transportation position in your future. 🙂

Not really, I just HATE anecdotal evidence
I actually like SUV's, owned em in the past, will again, I'll just call a spade a spade
is all 🙂
Thye don't get better gas mileage, they aren't safer, they have a purpose though and the price of gas is making everyone re-examine if the price at the pumps is worth it or not.
Since I'm a two vehicle family I can get a good on gas sedan for most of the driving and a crappy on gas SUV for fishing and hunting and occasional use.

Gas is still dirt cheap relatively it consumes 3-5% of my household after tax income and I live 20 miles from work. If it got over 15% I'd have to take a real hard look at how I do things switch to diesel maybe. . . car pool with the neighbour.
Higher than that? telecommute, move back to the city and so forth.

Did you see in my Economy thread where States are now taxing out of State Telecommuters???

Fvck Dave I can hardly keep up with everything you post!
I do read a lot of it tho, I read everything from either side seems my politics are purely centrist from whatever political quiz I've taken and appear to be one of those kind of people who will argue against artificial grass at 9 O'clock and for it at 11 . .
Seriously, I ususally see both sides of an argument and usually reality is somewhere in the middle.

Actually if you weren't such a turd you might have realized my point. I do drive 70, but not like a jackass; nor am I a ?junior?. My mom also drives 70; if she were to drive 60 she wouldn?t save much gas. I guess after graduating from being a ?junior? you stop having parents. The difference is she doesn?t wait in traffic and drives all highway miles, 20-24 MPG. I sit in traffic, wasting gallon after gallon of gas on my way to work 20-24 MPG.

My point was to the people who condemn SUV?s because of their size and suspected poor gas mileage. It isn?t about the car it?s about the driving pattern and habits.

Which why your example was so poor, you were the one trying to compare the two
Not anywhere did it discuss driving habits, my point.
Which if your mom had a Camry to commute with it would be even better on gas and she'd be safer.

you are correct, my first post in this thread was pretty bad and incoherent... but I'm not at 100% today, motrin takes it out of me.

The construction of refineries in the US has been delayed/prevented/just not done in order to tighten the supply and drive up fuel prices. This has little or nothing to do with oil production/pricing from the middle east. The importation of oil from the middle east could actually be stopped if we got rid of all SUV-type vehicles. (how likely is that?). Hydrogen is not a solution in spite of all the talk. Yes, it's an ideal fuel in a lot of ways, but it's a terrible net-loss fuel at the present time, i.e. it takes 5 or 6 times the energy to make it than you get from it. Doubtless that could be improved with development, but we would need a huge new infrastructure in renewable energy (wind, solar) to make this possible. That kind of investment has not been apparent, nor will it be with oil companies dominating politics and the economy. The only large new energy infrastructure being built is coal-fired plants that are terrible polluters and serious contrubutors to greenhouse gasses. As long as most energy in this country has a smokestack behind it, hydrogen (or electric) cars are a silly idea that could actually make the overall situation worse.

Using nuclear power (fission first, then fusion) to produce hydrogen is currently the only way out from the oil dependancy.

As far as your claim that "The only large new energy infrastructure being built is coal-fired plants that are terrible polluters" is incorrect. I actually just posted something on this today. Several new nuclear plants are now slated for construction in the southern US.

If I'm not mistaken, no US refineries have been built in about 30 years. That's a pretty long-running scheme. They may not be building more refineries because there won't be enough oil around long enough to recoup the cost. They've been scaling back exploration for new fields because they've lost their shirts on that the past few years.

If you people can't afford gas, you might want to sell one of your three 4 wheelers and 2 snowmobiles. Maybe the motorcycle to, seeing as that doesn't get much run anyway. Plus you get a little money back and pay off your loans that you got to get those toys.

I can afford gas just fine and have no 4 wheelers or anything like it. I also reserve the right to bitch about them all I want just as I'll bitch about any rising prices on anything that I buy. Thanks for playing! 🙂

Is he serious? These prices may be great for sheiks in Kuwait, but I think the average consumer is not all that happy. But we need to get off the oil crack sooner rather than later, so maybe a little catharsis isn't a bad thing. Thanks sheiky.

Link to Story

Oil production is going to decrease to zero over the next century. It is a non-renewable resource.

Prices are going to rise, if anything.

Get used to it.
