I remember my exact location the first time I *heard* a Nirvana song. It was, of coure, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". I was with my ex-wife visiting her relatives in Arizona, riding in her cousin's pickup truck. That song came on the radio and I was totally amazed. That was just about Christmas in 1991. I was 20 years old.

I know the details of where I was and how old and whatever is boring. But I think it illustrates the revolutionary change that Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and David Grohl brought to the popular culture. I agree with MTV and their assessment that Nirvana's album _Nevermind_ split the popular music genre into a "before" and "after".

This thread is a remeberence, so how about you find something else to soapbox about. Nirvana changed popular music as we know it today, he may not have been the greatest musician, which he was far from, but he paved the way for many other acts to step up to the plate.
 
It is always sad when someone touches others and then feels so alone they must do something drastic. I never listened to his music but I must admit I am touched by the kind words for him here.

To those of you that feel the need to speak bad of the dead. Get a life.

I'll back you up, Amish. Except, I must admit, I like the GUITAR and some sounds and the overall feeling of SOME of their music. He was a fuktard, though.
 
Good Musician, lots of mental problems.
Unfortunately it seems too many of them for him to live with.
Wonder what Nirvana would be putting out today (if they still did) if he was still around.

Seriously... just because you didn't like his music doesn't mean you should be glad he died, that is so heartless. I am not a huge fan of nirvana myself, but I don't find the need to come in here and claim this was the best day ever...

But anyways...I also remember that day. I was sitting in the car with my dad and listening to KROQ. I felt depressed all day. Awesome singer, awesome group!

I was at an INXS concert in the San Jose Arena the day Kurt Cobain died.

In the middle of a song, suddenly the band stopped playing and Michael Hutchence stopped singing and stared blankly, murmured something to the effect, "Sorry folks, you're going to have to give us a minute... we're a little shocked now... we just found out that a friend of ours, Kurt Cobain, just blew his head off."

Hutchence sat down for a bit and just talked in general. But INXS pulled itself back together and played on... and well.

Sad that Hutchence later hung himself.
