Heh, I've never heard of Kroger or Meijer. It's pretty easy to find decent produce in California, though.
I'd love to live in a coastal farming state. The only stuff here that's grown locally is weird stuff like cabbage and eggplant. However, fresh corn is usually above par in Michigan.

I like buying my produce at the weekly farmer's market. It's a little more expensive, but it's the best and they'll usually even let you sample before buying.

Agreed.

Going out to the local Farmer's Market is the only way to go for me. Fruits and veggies taste so much better when they're farm-fresh. I'm glad we have a great selection of farmer's markets in my area. :)

Ditto.

MAdison has an awesome farmer's market. The produce and fruit last for weeks. We buy eggs, meat, fruit, veggies, cut flowers, donuts, bread, cheese there every saturday as we stroll around the capital square.

pic of me, wife and son, farmers market can be seen in the background.

There's a weekly farmers' market here in Ann Arbor - problem is that parking sucks (it's downtown). I'm also betting that the fruit is really expensive there. I can get blueberries (my FAVORITE fruit) for $0.99/pint in the supermarket. How much would they cost somewhere else?

michigan... you should have fresh blueberries coming out the yahoo.

The growing season may be short, but you should be able to more than just cabbage and eggplant and corn! Go to your farmers market or drive out til you find a road side stand.

I'm sure the manager will really care what you think about their products.
If I yell about it loudly enough, he might. :D

No, he'll just chalk you up to be another annoying customer who didn't check their produce before they bought it. Trust me, he'll say anything you want to hear just to get rid of you.

I'm not gonna stick around for a long time babbling abot produce. I'll just tell him, "Your produce is pretty nasty - blah...mold...soft fruit...blah blah. I'm not shopping here anymore." And then I'll leave. I don't care if he cares or not - but nothing will ever be done if customers don't complain.

Nor will anything be done if they do. It's Kroger, a national chain, and therefore not going anywhere.

I always go Krogering for my weekly shopping, but I will admit their produce generally sucks. Hell, my local Krogers (Texas) hasn't had pears for weeks, yet the Super Walmart up the road has them. Where the hell are my pears, Krogers??? :|
