Kroger is such a ripoff

everything here is much more pricier than meijer or walmart.

i normally don't like coming here, but its all i have close to home.

Not the greatest of quality either. Though they do have some things that I can't find at other stores, particularly of the gluten-free varieties.

I actually find Kroger to be cheaper than Meijer, along with a huge advantage of being less busy/smaller and more convenient.

I go to both places based on what I need.

Krogers has damn good sunflower seeds, their brand. I'm a sunflower seed connoisseur, and that's the hardest word I've had to spell in a VERY long time.

All national grocery store chains now have market-specific pricing. Here in DFW, Kroger is one of the cheaper ones, definitely cheaper than Albertson's and Tom Thumb, the two main competitors. Wal Mart is cheaper still (on most things), but their meat and vegetable quality and selection is simply terrible.

One thing that pisses me off about Kroger (and most other stores are doing this too), is those god damned 'discount' cards or whatever. Discount my ass! They mark the regular price up xx% and then only charge a fair price WITH the card. Don't have a card? Prepare your anal cavity for some reaming. A recent example :

12 pack Coca Cola 12 oz cans.

With card : 3 for $10 or $3.33/ea
Without card : $4.99

WTF?

In Richmond, we have a locally owned grocery chain called Ukrops.

long story short, they're the most expensive and also very clean (similar to whole foods, except not as green and they do not sell alcohol at all, not one drop). today they were purchased by royal ahold. I kid you not... they own giants.

i thought krogers were pretty cheap in comparison while food lions here are pretty dirty.

cheapest is the walmart super store, our only other choice.

Did anyone else read that as 'Royal Ahole'?

Meijer > *

The one thing I miss about moving out to the East Coast. Giant and Safeway are nothing compared to Meijer.

Yep, here in Houston Krogers is cheaper than HEB, Walmart and Albertsons when you combine their card and coupons. I shop for 6 every two weeks and have tried other stores, but keep coming back to Krogers.

I prefer Kroger to my local Giant Eagle and Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart is cheaper, but they don't have everything I like.

I hate kroger because of their stupid kroger card that you have to use

Why do you care whether or not Kroger knows what you purchase?

Also, I shop at Kroger (for groceries) more often than Walmart, Meijer, or any of the other local grocers.

Meijer is not owned by Kroger.

We don't give a shit if Kroger knows what we purchase, but it's annoying to have to keep a stupid card/fob, or to have to enter our phone number to 'activate' what should be regular sale prices.

It would also not be so bad if so many places weren't jumping on this stupid train. CVS and Walgreens are similar as well I think. And Tom Thumb, and Albertsons, and so on.

HEB is the best. Cheapest prices without a stupid card and the best produce and meats

This.

When I was in Austin, HEB had all the cheapest stuff, best quality, most variety. They didn't have the nicest store but were always packed and bringing in new goods. The Albertson's across the street was always more expensive and least variety. They did have a lot of shiny fruits and vegetables though.

Meijer is owned by Krogers. Although I prefer Meijer.

Nope, Kroger owns Fred Meyer's. Meijer is completely independent and a different beast--they do grocery in addition to all the usual "superstore" stuff.

edit: Meijer pissed me off a few years ago with a "show me your license to use your credit card" episode plus a bitchy cashier so we only shop there maybe a couple times a year. Been hitting Kroger ever since for groceries. Also using Kmart and Sears again.

And the almighty Costco. 😛
