The reason why I put this here into political forum is because of what this "controversial" topic is being used for and where, it's a big "war" going between the conventional news media and the internet about this and that's it's always in the middle of political stuff, and it has many other political ties.

That said, what happened in a fox interview, is that the fox host called the interviewed woman "communist" after she admitted that she did not vaccinate her kids because of autism concerns, which is ofcourse heavly denied and frowned upon by the US media, so then it gets into all the other political stuff as they argue back and forth, that's why the topic fits here imo, this is still a developing story so there might be more debate around the web about this in the coming days.

First, Thimerosal hasn't been in U.S. childhood vaccines since 2001 in this country, except for the mulit-dose vials of flu vaccine. And in that use, the amount of thimerosal is around 50 micrograms per 0.5ml. There is none in the single dose vials nor the nasal sprays.

Second, thimerosal is metabolized or degraded to ethylmercury and thiosalicylate. Ethylmercury is an organomercurial that should be distinguished from methylmercury, a related substance that has been the focus of considerable study. And methylmercury is the substance that has repeatedly been the source of confusion about thimerosal and mercury toxicity. Ethylmercury has been shown to be essentially non-toxic in the doses humans are exposed to. Ethylmercury is NOT methylmercury, the metabolite of pure mercury found in seafood consumption, for instance.
(PS....did you know the LD50 amount of mercury is 25mg/kg in fish and ~50mg/kg in mice? Pure mercury, not the thimerosal metabolite of mercury.....)

Third, interestingly, in August, 2003, a study looked for a link between autism incidence and the use of thimerosal-containing vaccines. The study does not find a link between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism in Denmark and Sweden, where autism rates continued to increase although thimerosal was removed from vaccines in 1992.

So, thimerosal was removed from vaccines used in Denmark and Sweden in 1992 and yet autism rates continued to increase 11 years later. Hmmmm......
