Is Kotor 2 worth another try?
I finished KOTOR 1 and was DROOLING over 2..

Played 6 hours... and it could not hold me...

Yet, 1 almost put me in divorce court LOL (Hyperbole)
Much like Witcher is doing to me now..

Is it because KOTOR 1 and Witcher were FRESH?
Kotor 2 seemed like, been here... Done that..

YES, I know ALL the digs.... But I still feel Witcher is fresh... My opinion.

Link is not working... (At work) cant WAIT to click it at home...

Upgrade the combat system to a real-time dealie and we've got the best Star Wars game ever...

KotOR 1 was excellent, KotOR 2 was obviously pushed out the door way too early...

If they can recapture the magic and storytelling of KotOR 1, happy days are here again. That may be my favorite RPG of all time.

KOTOR II was at best 3/4 of a game. It was rushed out the door so badly that there were whole story lines that just dead ended and the ending itself was not finished so all you got was some text and a cut scene of your ship flying off of a planet...

I hope this is true, cause I've been playing KOTOR 2 repeatedly to tide my craving for the sequel. I wonder if the restoration project will be released soon?

IMO the combat system of the original was great. But Jade Empire had something good going too (similar game to KOTOR in many respects - ninjas instead of jedi).

I never thought KOTOR3 would happen after 2 though. Granted, 2 was a good game (playing 1 after 2, I miss some of the more sophisticated elements like making items, converting characters, and the 'dark' atmosphere), just rushed.

The beginning of KOTOR 2 rocked the fat ass.

I loved the intrigue, suspense and mystery surrounding your character on that doomed station and figuring out how to get off it while learning who you are. was very awesome!

i was really disappointed with KoTOR 2. I did think that KoTOR 1 was fantastic. I am really excited to hear about this new development.

Staying tuned.

I hated fighting all the robots. IMO Peragus went on too long, although it was a cool idea. Generally too much robot fighting in KOTOR 2, though.

From the looks of that article EA is taking a hands-off aproach to Biowares KOTOR 3.
Of course its just starting, they have plenty of time to meddle and fuck up the whole project.

Loved em both. Just remember that most used force power was the speed up one, cuz running around the planets took forever. I think it also gave an extra attack per round.

Yes, the first few hours were rather good. So was running into the hidden Jedi enclave on Telos. Storming the palace on Onderon was a too rare and very much needed action set-piece. The set-up for the finish at Malachor V was brilliant - too bad all the plans they had to close on these setups had to be cut to make the shipping deadline.

The problem was, there was about ~30 hours of banality packed in between these high points. Telos Station and Nar Shaddaa may as well have been the same location. Dxun felt like grassy hallways.

But the biggest issue was that none of it was very compelling. In KotOR 1 you had all these carrots (SPOILERS coming up)...

...like the Star Maps, Bastila being captured, your party's personal trials, etc. to keep you interested and wondering what would happen next.

KotOR II just had "Your past is a mystery! *mysterious music*". It didn't give you anything to *do* with that, and all this romping around to find "lost" Jedi masters was just the star map party trick rehashed. Of course, pretty much every RPG ever made makes you wander around to retrieve stuff (map, artifact, person), but at least in KotOR 1 you were emotionally invested in the characters traveling with you, which made it an *enjoyable* journey.

KotOR III would be near the top of my "must watch" list, but they do need to bring some of the gameplay elements forward, update the engine, and they need BioWare's writers doing the story again.

And I want realtime combat, because taking me out of the fight while the number system calculates who wins in the background completely kills the suspension of disbelief. They should hire the Ubisoft guys who did the Prince of Persia titles to design their combat system.

I might be alone on this, but a turn based battle system would be fun for these title, IMO. Or at least a system such as the Gambit System via FF12.

aw crap. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51314

Addressing the alleged sequels to BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Criterion's Black, publisher Electronic Arts has clarified that such products are not necessarily under development at this time.

"The slide in John's presentation is titled 'Best Creative Talent'--it addresses future and past titles," EA told Shacknews. "KOTOR, Black, Boogie, Skate and some other titles on the slide speak to past portfolio releases and the pedigree of the studio but do not specifically address future sequels."
