How many here get the Kohl's catalog? In the front there's a sticker you can peel that reveals a coupon for either 15, 20 or 30% off. My theory is that they send everyone the same percent each catalog and then just adjust their price to cancel out or at least diminish the coupon. So if you got a catlog this week, what was the percent off?
 
I shop at Kohl's from time to time. You have to really pay attention to their prices. I would never buy anything there that wasn't "on sale". Eventually they have sales on everything.

However like you said they have a regular inflated price. Then they always have sales to mark down from the inflated regular price to make people believe they are getting a really good deal.

All these stores try to do this type of hyped up fake "sale" scam.

JC Penney does a chocolate bar sale every now and then. They give you a candy bar and the wrapper has a 10 20 or 30 percent off coupon. I will go around and get a candy bar from every register until I get a 30 percent off coupon. (plus it is like trick or treating, WIN)

The funny one around here is OSH hardware. They always are running the "we pay the sales tax" sales. Woop de do, a whopping 8.25 percent off???
 
They do have good deals, but you have to just wait to get them, go at the right times.

I got a Citizen Eco Drive watch that sells for $350 on Amazon for under $200 using the 30% off, plus they had a 20% or something off sale on watches.

Oh yeah and because of that, got $30 in Kohls cash.

I just wait till they have 50% off something in-store.

Of course, since most of their shit is 300% overpriced its still a scam.

You would be way wrong. My wife and I get seperate catalogs, sometimes I get 30% off and she will get 15% off, or some other combination.

And as for their sales: How can you say a $7 printed Tshirt or $12 workout shorts, before coupon is a ripoff. I used a 30% coupon of a Tassimo machine that was priced the same as every other store, so where is the ripoff? The have one of those personal soda making machines at $79 this week (everyone else has it at $99), then 30% off with the coupon. You can even use the coupon on Levi Jeans, which are priced similarly to all other stores.

The only thing I'm not a fan of is their shoe prices, but even then with 30% off it's usually much better than anyone else. Oh, and their sock/boxer brief pricing is nothing to write home about.

Only time I've ever gone in a Kohl's is when I got a gift card for Xmas. Never even heard of it before but won't be going again. I don't like department stores.

Yeah, the sugar in the so called "chocolate" is all crystalized so it's like you're eating beet sugar mixed with brown, chocolate flavored wax or something. I won't even let my kids eat it.
 
I always get a 30%. Because when I don't I just find the 30% code from a deal site and shop online.

This time I really did get the 30% though. Picked up a few things.

hmm I guess another option would be to pick 5 items or so and track their price. Not that I care that much to do it. Looking at the poll though, it seems 30% has been the majority this time but the sample pool is very small.

From my experience, the more you spend, the less the future discount. Remember, you must use your Kohl's credit card to get the discount. They then track that spend. We always use my wife's card for the purchase, so she generally gets the 15 and 20% off coupons. I almost always get 30% coupons, but I hardly ever use my Kohl's charge card.
 
With recession-era Kohl's you don't actually start saving until you exceed the 50% off mark. You really think they're discounting their newest seasonal apparel? Riiight. Initial pricing is always the highest Kohl's will ever sell it for. If a price is advertised, it's not a true discount.

Remember 60%-off is really 10% ... and so on.

The coupon cards are worthwhile though.

printer technology can randomize stuff anyway, managers choose overall however.., and marketting teams will pay attention to demographics.
the recession has forced businesses to revamp and trick out the numbers more carefully. but let me tell you, the recession is not going to change the entire scope of people's thinking.

"IT'S THE SAME EVERYWHERE WE GO..." -only in some cases.

it's still taking Target Corporation some time to realize that they need to start thinking like Walmart. You don't just sell the same SH!T in "ALL" the stores across the United States.
in 2004 they were selling snow shovels in mass quantity in FL. in 2008, they still couldn't match their customer's expectations. Walmart was using more techniques to categorize its demographics, cashing in the bling for higher profits.
