Kobe initially hurt his finger in New Jersey. They said it was a dislocated finger. Turns out he completely torn the tendon and broke a bone.

Surgery is recommended, but he's going to try to play through it.

ESPN

Sucks if you're a laker fan.

How long would Big Mamba be out if he were to get the procedure? Couldn't he recover in time for the playoffs?

The competitor that Kobe is won't let him miss any significant time over a a pinky. My guess is that he'll rest it over all star weekend and return with it taped the way he's been doing it since it was injured in NJ for the first time a week or so ago.

I doubt he sits out at all. Kobe will play through injuries like this, because that's what he does. My concern as a Laker fan is if he can do more damage to the finger if he doesn't get surgery on it and continues to play. If it's just going to be a discomfort, then it's on him if he wants to get the surgery or not, which I seriously doubt he does. If he's going to permanently damage his hand by playing he needs to get the surgery.

The report says six weeks if he gets surgery now but Kobe will probably wait till the season's over before he get the surgery.

He has to think about his overall career.
I'd have surgury immediately.

His team has a decent record and with Pau and Lamar odom they should atleast make the playoffs with the 7th or 8th seed at worst I would think.

He can come back just in time for the playoffs after the surgery

What gets me is that the Lakers crack medical team didn't even know the extent of the injury until now. These misdiagnoses are becoming more frequent with the Lakers medical staff.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The Lakers would need to hold ship and just get into the playoffs. They would be formidable against anyone in the West.

without Kobe and Bynum, Lakers miss the playoffs. Pau is the #1 scoring option and Odom the #2. Odom is the worst as a primary/secondary scoring option, as we all have seen. Pau being the best player didn't work out too well in Memphis. And the West is too good even if the Lakers go .500 w/o Kobe for the Lakers to make the playoffs.

Even as a die-hard Laker fan I don't think the Lakers can make the playoffs without Kobe for 6 weeks. In another year, maybe, but the west is just too tough and too close this year. You lose 4 straight and you go from a 3rd seed to out of the playoffs. Add to the fact that Bynum is also out and it's doubly tough. That said, I think he should get the surgery. He said his pinky has been numb during games. Now I'm no doctor, but that doesn't sound good to me. Plus now that people know it's hurt, hacks like Bruce Bowen are going to take swipes at his hand.

Face it, he's a dirty player, it's not exactly a revelation, it's his reputation in the league.

He doesn't only plan on playing the rest of the season, but also in the 2008 Olympic games, kobe's definately pretty hard core.

I hear theres a great recuperation center in Colorado .. Kobe can get some well needed 'rest' there !!! The services are top notch.
