OMG Mike Dunleavy Jr. !!! Hey but Boozer tore it up this season and I hope he wins "Most Improved Player" although I have a feeling Zach Randolph will get the honor.

Jay Williams is way over-rated. He couldn't even shoot free throws as a PG.

uum.. you're right, Randolph got it

Definitely not overrated. Don't think it's possible to be overrated as one of, if not the best player in the league. Even stats aside it's impossible to quantify his immense contribution as a clutch player.

one of the best, yes
the best, absolutely not

Don't think there's any way to prove whether he's the best or not. Noone in the league is a Jordan-esque head-and-shoulders above the rest.

no, but its a matter of opinion but i think MVP is a good indicator

Definitely a good indicator of who's hot but Kobe may get less consideration because he is surrounded by so much talent. That he has some of the best players in the league as teammates but is still considered instrumental to the Lakers' success says a lot.

overrated? no. hated though, more than other players? yes.

example: went to my best friends place yesterday to watch the playoff's game. my friends dad was in my ear the whole game, 'kobe sucks, he's a flash in the pan, he's nothing, blah blah', then he drove down the lane after that steal towards the end of the game and tied the game i believe, and he didnt say anything. he said that stuff because he had a vendetta against kobe, and in the end, he just looked foolish. he could of attacked kobe's character, but he didnt, he decided to call him a ball-hog and attack his skill. he got up and left shortly thereafter.

Hmm, good call. I wasn't sure if they handed the award out yet.

It's a tough question. He is really good in his current position in his current team. It's hard to say what would happen if he were on another team. For example, if you put mcgrady on the lakers and kobe on the magic, what would happen? Hard to say... my guess is that he'd still be awfully good if not better.

I'd much rather have kobe with the last shot. Duncan and garnett are good grinders, but they just can't do as much at the end of the game, nor do they seem to have that "other gear". garnett shows flashes of the 2nd gear, but only flashes.

I think several kings are overrated. Stojakovic, Webber, and Divac mostly.

Antoine Walker is overrated, significantly.

In history? Hard to say. Probably pippen - he was on the nba's 50 greatest a while back. I can't say about older players like walton, etc. I haven't seen enough of their games. I can say for sure that kareem, magic, jordan, bird, and isaih thomas are not overrated.

Like everyone eles says, hes great! Will be better than Jordan IMO.

He has the ablitiy to take over any game, by himself.

*I hope he doesnt go to jail. I will miss his game if he does.

I think all sports figures are overrated so he can just join the heap. It is comforting to know that due to his feeling of invincibility he will probably be doing jail time.

I'm actually a Jazz hater, but I cannot say that Karl Malone is overrated. He's like 2/3rd on the all time scoring list. Now he's just old, but a few years ago he was pretty tough to stop. Stockton had a lot to do with it, but it is a team game.

If Kobe was on a team full of scrubs, he could average 40/50 points a game. Overrated is not the adjective I'd use to describe him. If anything, Bob Ryan is overrated. All the guys on ATH are, but entertaining.

Did you guys see those two shots against Portland?!

Please tell me how Shaq did anything to help that. Oh wait, Shaq wasn't even on the floor on the second shot!

Vince has been injured, I hardly see how that makes him overrated. When he's healthy he is (for me) the most exciting player in the game to watch, and this season towards the end it seemed like he was back.

Allan Houston is overpaid but not hardly overrated. I don't think anyone thinks he's the best player in the L or close to it, and as such he can't be.

Can anyone actually explain why you find him annoying? Seriously.

And anyone who thinks he's overrated, how often do you watch the Lakers? I've watched every single game over the last 3 years, and there is no doubt in my mind he's been the Lakers MVP for awhile now. They wouldn't have made the playoffs last year without him and they'd be an 8th seed without him this year. The game in Atlanta is the perfect example of why they need Kobe. But most of you wouldn't know because you don't watch the Lakers.

If anyone is actually serious about what you're saying, come to Lakerstalk and explain yourself. The posters there are knowledgeable and will argue with you as long as you make real arguments. I'd be very interested in what anyone might have to say. I've never seen anyone make a decent argument against Kobe.

a few points...

Bob Ryan is an 4ss. He says things that are borderline insane to get people talking about him.

Kobe is overrated? Ask any GM in the NBA if he is overrated - not one of them will say he is. He is one of the top 5 players in the NBA. Personally, the only non center I'd take over him is LeBron.

Vince Carter is a fantastic player. Three years ago, they were a shot at the buzzer away from beating Philly and being in the NBA finals - that team also had a young Tracey McGready on it. For some reason, they let him go, and have made a series of terrible trades, free agent signings, and drafts, though Bosh looks like a keeper from this past draft. The guy gets injured sometimes - big deal.

Iverson is way overrated right now. A few years ago he was much better than he is now - and he has quite possibly the worst attitude in NBA history - he is a great example of what is wrong with many of today's young athletes - they think the world owes them, and that they should be able to do as they please.

Jerry Stackhouse is overrated.
Peja is not.
Karl Malone is one of the top players in NBA history - he might not be the player today he was 5-10 years ago, but come on, he's 40.

True, Payton isn't nearly the defender he used to be.

Bill Walton was arguably the best NCAA basketball player of all time. Early in his NBA career he led his team to the title as well - then his career was marked by a series of very bad leg injuries - in no way, shape or form was he ever overrated though.

Zach Randolph most improved? His minutes jumped, and so did his production - that isn't improvement, its opportunity. Boozer didn't play much more this year than he did last year, yet his numbers increased dramatically - he was much more deserving of the award.

Iverson overrated? You must be on crack... yeah he his worst season ever b/c of injuries (equalled higher than usual TO/game and lower FG%), but he still averaged 26.4pts, 2.4 steals, 6.8 assists, and 3.7 rebounds a game. NOBODY is touching those numbers, maybe McGrady, KG or Duncan.
