They don't need Shaq to win a title, just another good one or two players alongside Kobe.

Put Shaq on the current lakers, replace kobe with average non-superstar guard and see if they win a title. Even Shaq in his prime couldn't do it.

yeah shaq sucks. how many rings has he won since leaving LA? i forget..

uhhh, shaq had Wade (on kobe's level). name one player kobe has anywhere near Shaqs level.

oh ya.

i forget too.

you kinda proved my point. stick shaq on a team with a decent player and he wins. there are lots of poeple who can do what kobe does (well not score 50+ but score and pass, kobe is in a small group of elite players) but very very few that can do what Shaq does.

granted not as well. he is getting old. i doubt he wins another righ where if kobe should. doubt with LA though

you proved nothing, you made an assertion.

and you obviously completely missed my point.

Shaq and Kobe are winners, but I give the value-nod to Shaq.

He makes a team an instant competitor much more than Kobe. I'd say the major difference is that while both players have the ability to make their teammates better offensively, Shaq makes them much better defensively, since his teammates can guard the ball better tighter yet have Shaq clogging the lane in case anyone gets thru.

And we know defense wins championships...

Kudos to Kobe - another historic scoring run for him.

waggy....you're a cool dude, but you're clueless about basketball. The lakers are not a bad team. Kobe has help but he is most definitely the best player in the NBA. Shaq has been winning by himself for the last month.

love him or hate him, how can you deny what he's done these last 4 games?

ya seriously. Anyone just try running up and down and lobbing 30-40 shooting strokes, and do that almost every other day for a week. His conditioning is unbelievable. It's talent + endurance + willpower.

When will we see this again?

he's a great player but his team sucks which is probably why he makes all those points in the first place. he should try and switch teams. (the east could use another good player...🙂)

I disagree. I kobe is full of himself, and is a ball hog. If he was a team player, that ball would move more, and would be shot by the rest of the team.

In 1961-62, Wilt Chamberlain scored a mind-boggling 50.4 points and grabbed 25.7 rebounds per game. Chamberlain's 4,029 regular-season points made him the first and only player to break the 4,000-point barrier. To place this in perspective the only player other than Chamberlain to break the 3,000-point barrier is Michael Jordan, who scored 3,041 points in the 1986-87 NBA season.
Chamberlain once again broke the 2,000 rebound barrier by grabbing 2,052 rebounds. Additionally, he was on the hardwood for an average of an equally mind-boggling 48.5 minutes, playing 3,882 of his team's 3,890 minutes.
On March 2, 1962, Chamberlain delivered another incredible performance and became the first player to score 100 points in a single NBA game, in the 169-147 victory of his Warriors against the New York Knicks.

Ohhh Kobe, you have a loooong way to go to equal this guy's numbers. 😀

actually for most of the season Kobes scoring was down (vs the last 3 or 4 seasons) and his Assists were UP.

then they lost a couple of decent players and went on a 7 game losing streak. so Kobe took it on himself to win these games. can't blame the guy as he apparently has the ability.

Indeed... the second he starts scoring again, the 'ball hog' claims start coming up again. He's near the top of the NBA in Points Per Shot and is averaging well over 5 assists a game on a team where the only other guy really capable of 15+ ppg right now is Lamar Odom.

Most talented scorer ever? Why not?

game starting. will kobe be joining wilt in the 50+ points in 5 consecutive games category? we shall soon see.

edit: we're only 2 minutes in and kobe already has 9!

He's at 60 now, officially a ball HOG.

Fixed that for you.

Well when Smush Parker can start hittin 3s or anything for that matter, Kobe will start passing it 😀

Btw, he's at 19 points right now in the 2nd quarter with about 9 minutes left. Another 50+ pts? Dammn. I don't even like Kobe that much, but he's a damn good basketball player that's for sure.

He is "only" averaging 30 pts a game this year.. Last year he was at 35 pts/game!!!

True, but in the beginning of the seasons Kobe was passing the ball a loottt more than he was last season and many thought it was a positive approach. Now he doesn't do that anymore. Hahaha ..i dont think he has one assist 2nite. Damn
