Might be a can of worms, but what the hell... Ok - let me start this out right away - I'm *NOT* gay. But it sort of irks me when I see lots of people calling ebay "egay". Seems to me that when people do this, they are in one of two catagories:
1. Homophobic prejudiced people who think being gay is wrong, and use this as a way to express their opinions.
or
2. People who don't know better.
Granted everybody has the right to express their own opinion, but this just isn't something that I'd care for my children to read, and it's not a connotation that I like. Obviously the implication is that being gay is bad, therefore by calling ebay "egay", you are saying that ebay is bad. Just seems sort of childish to me. I guess I would say the following:
In response to #1 - fine. Have your own opinion. But use clear, well spoken arguements to express your opinion, instead of childish name calling (egay). If you truly believe that being gay is wrong, then say so in a way that actually shows you have a reasonable opinion.
In response to #2 - wake up. Offhand remarks like this and NOT "raising the bar" of human decency are what has lead to generation after generation of prejudice in some areas of the south. It's not politically correct to say "blacks are bad", but ask a white male from the south to tell you a joke, and it will probably have to deal with black people doing something wrong. It's latent prejudice - the same type of thing that using "egay" promotes. You aren't outright SAYING that being gay is bad, but you aren't *NOT* saying it either. Pick a side, and then properly voice your opinion.
Flame away. Don't bother calling me gay, or calling me a gay-supporter, or any crap like that. This post really isn't even ABOUT being gay - it's about making a moral and ethical decision to voice an opinion, or to tolerate the opinion of another. What I'm saying is that calling ebay "egay" is just a very poor way to voice that opinion.
