You say it like it's a bad thing...

I just convinced myself that I was going to grow up and collect big boy things like stocks and bonds. I can't go back to Lego now!!! Or can I....

Well... that 1989 set you wanted for $120 is now worth $250 (opened).
So in 27 years, the value has more than doubled.
What's your return on your stocks and bonds been thus far?

Well, in 1989 I was 6 years old putting that lego set together.

That said, I would hope I would be getting a 100% return after 27 years via the stock market.

So what I'm hearing is...I need to diversify into Legos.

A couple years back, they apparently had a Pirates of the Caribbean theme with two huge pirate ship sets. I would masturbate to that...

Yeah, I got the Black Pearl when it was on clearance for $50. I had a picture of it on image shack but it looks like they deleted all my uploads. (bastards)

WHY DO I WANT THIS SO BAD?!!??!

We're excited to announce new LEGO Minifigures The Disney Series!

Available starting May 2016!

so if I buy a whole set and put it in a vault, when I open up the vault in 50 years these things are going to be worth a fortune right?

Look at how much your Town Hall is selling for right now:

There is a website for Lego investing: www.brickpicker.com You can enter the sets you have and it will give you investment growth numbers using the data it collects on average sale prices on ebay. There's also a good forum there where members talk about Lego investment strategies.

I missed out when I was a kid but I got it when it got re-released in 2002 as 10040. I wish Lego would re-release old sets more, but I don't think they have the molds for some of those old parts. The set I wish I got when I was a kid were one of the monorails. I still dream that they re-release a monorail so I can buy half a mile of track and have it go through my house.

Really wanted the pirate ship, ended up with the fire ship. 4020

Op, best way is to buy off of craigslist. I often see people selling collections for cheap. You may need to pay out $200-300, but that can often be 1/4 or less of msrp. Also keep an eye on target clearance endcaps. I just bought 2 lego minecraft 21118 for $25 each.

I spent a good hour on the brickvesting site before deciding I would rather just buy dividend stocks vs dealing with the hassle of storing legos and setting up eBay auctions. Still, it's very tempting...maybe if I didn't already have a few hustles going on...

Man, if I had the BSB I would so totally put it together while watching the Goonies and drinking Ecto Cooler on a Saturday morning... Something like bliss could potentially result.
