For my part a knights castle/full sized pirate ship seemed cooler than moonwalkers and "space lego". Although the Exo Suit they came out with recently seems kind of cool.

Ooooooh damn knights castle. More late 80's early 90's awesomeness.

I gotta thank my parents for my Legos man, I'm sure that shit was a fortune to immigrant parents in that timeframe.

This is the one I had.

I remember I had to give up my $8 a month allowance and my mother "matched" it and it took like half a year before I got it.

Castle lego sets were only introduced near the end of my childhood. This was one of the ones I had:
EDIT: can't link the image. Just search lego 6080 for a pictar

Sucker had hinges so you could open it right up. Quite futuristic.

Get Lego and get fewer. No need to have plastic crap all over the place.

Ha, had all of these sets as well!

:)

I also had a castle collection and city.

1/2 my basement is a lego city now. :)

My mother gave away all my Legos. And all my first generation GI Joes. And all my first generation Transformers. Thanks mom!

Time to rebuild!

That's what I did. Heck,Lego even came back out with my favorite set when I was a kid. I loved this castles and have purchased it/have it again.

This was a dream come true as s kid.......where I'm from, these things were next to impossible to obtain.

Oh, also, check out Pley. It's like Netflix for Lego sets. I plan on using it when my kids are old enough. Of course I'm just pretending that the subscription will be for the kids.

I had no idea this existed. That's a good idea.

there is a huge resale market for legos. people buy them in mass and sell of the pieces (part no) individually. This market has already tried to use 3d printing and chinese clones. None has passed user acceptance unless the price equals/surpasses that of a real lego.

Be careful before you invest, I think Lego is slowly running it's course. Most of the consumers are people like us that grew up with them and buy it for their children.

I have to say my kids have very little interest in playing with them once build........I don't see the Lego market sustaining, but I hope I'm wrong.

And the good thing about it, they will be cheaper for us to buy. :)

$265 lol. doesn't matter what age you are, Legos are fucking expensive.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-PIRATE...811575?hash=item25b9039c77:g:L7cAAOSwdU1W9MJ2

And then you start looking at similiar auctions and found a guy with 25 pirate sets on the same table (sold as a collection for $3000)

Seems like a good way to put your kid to work. Buy a bunch of incomplete sets and sell a few complete ones.

This was my VERY first "set"...

Closely followed by:

I still have many of these pieces (easily identifiable by the unique tread pieces, doors, windows and tires)

I can not find any reference to my first "special" set that had to have come out around the same time. It was a yellow "construction site" with rubber conveyor belt, arch pieces and even a "Lego Land" 1x4 brick (still have it)

They nearly went bankrupt in the mid 00's, but licensed products combined with new management and designs made them the king they are now:

Realizing that kids were not the only market was what helped Lego climb out of the hole in the first place, so I would disagree that kids not being interested is a sign of decline.

Yeah, I do think like any investment, it's better to do as much research as you can before you put any money in and of course, be prepared to spend a lot of time. I don't invest since dealing with ebay buyers would be a nightmare for me, but some have the time and stamina of doing that. The days of many sets doubling in value a month after they get discontinued is over, but I'm sure there's money to be had.

Kids today would only be interested in Legos if they could build a working cellphone with Legos so they can mash the like button on Failbook, text each other gossip about their classmates and run into telephone poles while walking, their eyes staring at a screen where the overly attached girlfriend is staring back at them.
