Speakers and LCD's are IMHO very unappreciated pieces of hardware. People will spend hours pouring over reviews of CPU's and mobo's that they'll use only for about a year while neglecting the lcd/speakers which you typically use for 5+ years.

Get the promedias. They are absolutely fantastic. I never have the bass turned up on mine and they still sound a lot better than the logitech sets I've tried in the past.

Agreed.. nothing makes me cringe like when I see people buying decked out systems only to use them on their 20" LCD and crappy sub $100 speakers.
It's the monitor/speakers that gives you most of the experience...

Most people think onboard audio is good enough, so they won't think the ProMedia's are "worth it".
But I think they're worth the extra $30. 😉

Onboard audio has come a long way bro..
Intel HD audio will sound as good as any soundcard with the promedias.

lol

I moved my Logitech Z-5500s to my college apartment and want something decent for when I am at home. I tried Logitech X-240s, hated them and ended up giving them to my dad for an office computer that's sometimes used for video.

I'm looking at either the Logitech Z-2300s or the Klipsch Promedias. Klipsch has the Promedias for $149.99 with free ground shipping, the Z-2300s are about $120 shipped online. What do you guys think?

Do I think it's worth it? ABSOFRIGGIN'LUTELY!!

I was faced with a similar decision two years ago. Back then, the Klipsch was one of the cheapest units available at $180. The Z-5500 was priced closer to $300 or in many cases significantly more. The logitech units were somewhere in between, but had many bad reviews as well as many good ones. The only problem I saw with Klipsch, was that people complained about the fact that it's a 2.1 system, and that the speakers start to buzz several years after purchase or the bass gets distorted after prolonged use.

For a gamer like me, sitting in a small room, in an appt building, anything above a 2.1 system is simply unnecessary, and surround sound is overrated IMO, when it comes to PC gaming.

These Klipsch speakers are ridiculously loud. So loud in fact, that I never use them above 25% max volume. In rare cases I go up to 50-60% when I want to impress friends. I never went to 100% because if I did, the neighbors would come down to kill me. 😉

Movies and games sound great, and I noticed no sound quality deterioration after prolonged use. There is maybe a tiny bit of buzz when the speakers are turned all the way up, but you'll never hear it unless you have your volume turned up very high, besides it might be due to my speakers sitting close to my monitor. Other than that, the sound is crystal clear. The subwoofer makes the floor under my feet jump. 😉

PS: When I bought my Klipsch 2.1's, the 1st thing I did, was play Rammstein's "Du Hast" as loud as I could. It was... Truly something...

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I myself actually wanted the ProMedias over the Z-2300, but $107 vs. $149 was a decision ultimately made by my wallet. A friend of mine has the Z-2300s, and I've heard the ProMedias many many times, but I won't nearly be using these enough to justify the extra cash or miss the better sound.
