I moved my Logitech Z-5500s to my college apartment and want something decent for when I am at home. I tried Logitech X-240s, hated them and ended up giving them to my dad for an office computer that's sometimes used for video.

I'm looking at either the Logitech Z-2300s or the Klipsch Promedias. Klipsch has the Promedias for $149.99 with free ground shipping, the Z-2300s are about $120 shipped online. What do you guys think?
 
Since its sounds like they won't be used too often, you might want to look at Logitech Z4's. They sound much better to my ears than the X-240s i got my brother, and you save some money at ~$70
 
A friend of mine started off with X-240s, upgraded to Z-3s, and then finally got Z-2300s. I'm guessing the Z-4s sound close to the Z-3s, and I'm a huge fan of the Z-680 and Z-5500 speakers. I was kinda settled on the Z-2300s, just waiting for a good deal to roll around, but I started considering the ProMedias because of all the good things I hear about them.

I'm at home a lot, and I'm a bitch when it comes to crappy sounding audio (I have Shure E4Cs and they spoil me too).

Plus, eventually I'll find use for them here, for a second desktop when I really move away, etc.
 
Look on eBay, I've seen lots of those going for $70-80 shipped.

And I can vouch for the quality - I've sold about a dozen pairs of "refurbs" (straight from eBay) to customers for $100 and have had zero complaints. I use a set of the 4.1 Klipsch speakers myself & absolutely love the quality.
 
The Z2300s will have punchier bass. The Klipsch have more detailed mid range and highs. Both can be blasted at full with little distortion and are amazing systems. It just comes down to what you listen to. Mostly games? You might be more impressed with the sub on the logitech. Music of any sort will sound better on the Klipsch unless you're into rap or some trash like that.
 
I got my Klipsch promedia 2.1's from ebay for $86 shipped, new. At least the seller sold them as new... I guess it could have been refurbished and then repackaged at the factory? I'm not sure but either way it was a great deal and I love em.
 
Oh I forgot to mention the weakness of the Klipsch system.. the wiring is thin and brittle and will short out if you aren't careful with the placement. I haven't had a chance to see what the wiring is like on the Z2300s. (I'm talking about the wires that go to the satellites)

Music, very little rap and hip hop. My Z-5500s at my apartment are for games, they fit the bill fine there, at home I just like to nef and listen to music.

Z-2300s have nice thick RCA cables like the 5500s. And Logitech is super awesome, if the wires are frayed for any reason they just send you a whole new satellite.
 
I've been using some ProMedia 2.1s for 5 or 6 years now. I've been very happy with them. For their size they are great.
 
I have had my Klispch 2.1's since I built my PC two yrs ago. I love them! But I also have a full surround sound setup with Klipsch's.
 
I never liked the ProMedia 2.1s very much. The sub had terrible frequency response. The ProMedia 5.1 set that's currently in my closet sounded worlds better.

Then again, my ProMedia 2.1s were second hand, and could have been defective. Who knows..

Had a lot of problems with my promedia's. The din plug broke (very common) and now the sub doesn't work 🙁
 
I've had the 2.1's for several years and I love the sound quality, the only problem with them is the wiring and control pod setup, the connection to the sub is very fragile and prone to breakage and if it breaks you have to replace the whole wiring control pod assembly which stays on perpetual back order with Klipsch. Mine broke and it took me months to get a replacement. Klipsch has the assemblies made in China and get about 2 shipments a year of them, and you better be on the waiting list when one of the shipments arrive
 
My klipsch 2.1s is one of the best investments I've made for my setup. I LOVE them. If you care about audio, get them. They're more of a "pure" audiophile design, not the inflated muddy type of sound you get from a lot of the peripheral brands. Many speaker sets aren't really designed by the company you're buying from. It's just a rebadge in a plastic shell.
 
I had mine for about 4 years before the stupid plug that goes into the subwoofer broke. I got them used off someone on this board and they were worth every penny.
 
Most people think onboard audio is good enough, so they won't think the ProMedia's are "worth it".
But I think they're worth the extra $30. 😉

Onboard audio has come a long way bro..
Intel HD audio will sound as good as any soundcard with the promedias.



 
I've been a Klipsch fan for years, ever since I got my 5.1 setup. The bass isn't overwhelming but the sound of it all together is just so rich and pure. If you got the Shure's you know the rich pure sound. I've honestly not heard the other Logitech's you're talking about but I absolutely love my Klipsch sound.

I have about the same experience. I love klipsch quality.
 
Speakers and LCD's are IMHO very unappreciated pieces of hardware. People will spend hours pouring over reviews of CPU's and mobo's that they'll use only for about a year while neglecting the lcd/speakers which you typically use for 5+ years.

Get the promedias. They are absolutely fantastic. I never have the bass turned up on mine and they still sound a lot better than the logitech sets I've tried in the past.

Not here 😉

Bought my Logitech Z-5500s and a Samsung 193P ($500 at the time, one of the best PVA panels available then) 4 or 5 years ago, still using both. I can see myself using my HP LP2275w (also a PVA panel, cost me like $350) until it breaks as well.

I was about to buy the ProMedias, when I saw that TigerDirect had the Z-2300s for $99. I called the local CompUSA up, and lo and behold, they have them for $99+tax ($107). I'm having a hard time justifying the $43 when people have had problems with the subwoofer connections and fuses (my cousin had the ProMedias, stopped using them when the sub died).
