It was posted as a possible risk. Hopefully of the 90+ sets that were available when I posted the deal most did ok with their dice roll.
Even Newegg makes me pay return shipping, but the "store credit" instead of a refund sucks.

I see at least 3 or 4 people had problems with theirs... have any of you followed up with ConsumerDepot.com yet? I'm curious if you got anywhere with them.
Mine were waiting for me when I got home tonight... I can handle "new/open box" which is how they advertised these, but old, used, filthy, and blown out does not fit that description. There appears to be gum stuck to teh subwoofer enclosure, and a sticky substance spilled across the back of it. Two top corners of the sub seem to indicate that it was dropped, as they are smashed and the veneer pulled off. One of the satellites also has a sticky substance (probably soda pop) spilled on it, and the other satellite sounds like the speaker's blown.
This set was a BestBuy return, one of their pink stickers is on the outside of the box and another was half-removed from the sub enclosure. I also noticed that the serial number on the box does not match the serial number on the enclosure... looks like someone did a fraudulent speaker swap.
I thought I'd check in here before I take it up with ConsumerDepot.com.... anyone?

Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to the volume, pattern and failure to answer complaints.
Specifically, the company has received over 116 complaints alleging that the company sells defective merchandise and failure of the company to respond and resolve complaints with its customers.
The company has not answered these complaints and as of March 15, 2004, BBB no longer processes complaints with this company.
Consumer's may still file complaints with BBB and BBB will forward them to the appropriate regulatory authority for handling.

I've bought from this outfit before and was very disappointed.
They are true liquidators and you are really rolling the dice buying from them. I bought a "open box" 60Gig IBM Deathstar from them a couple years ago and it was actually a 40gig unit labled 60Gigs from the factory. IBM made good on the RMA warranty but it was a major hassle and took several weeks. I vowed to never buy from them again.
I can't even imagine the hassle of having to RMA speakers. They do have all the proper disclaimers though so if you ignore those it's your own darn fault, lol.

I posted this early and many ignored it.
You buy from this company and YOU ARE ROLLING THE DICE!
They have all the disclaimers in place though so if you feel lucky, roll dem dice! Just don't whine when you roll craps, mmkay?
CAVEAT EMPTOR applies heavily to this outfit. I will not warn again about this outfit. If people are too lazy to read a thread they deserve to RMA speakers, lol.
Good luck to all gamblers!

I saw your post, and the others, and understood there was a risk. I was not "too lazy" to read--I read the entire thread through to the point where I ordered. I also read their policies and disclaimers. This item was described as "New/Open Box: Complete, in Original Packaging with All Accessories." I received a used, damaged, returned set with non-matching serial numbers. Not a New/Open Box. A returned POS. An open box demo or something would have been expected and I'd have been fine with that. What I got is _not_ covered by their "disclaimers" and I consider it outright fraud.
You're right, it was a gamble. But they can't advertise one item and send you another and expect their standard disclaimer to cover it.
I'm not off-topic, and I'm not whining, I am discussing what happened with this experience in case it might help some others. Sticking your tongue out at those of us that did get shafted isn't helping anyone.

I only want Anandtecher's to stop buying from these guys and am trying to be as emphatic as possible.
This consumerdepot place sucks.
This deal sucks and is not hot. Should be locked and woulda been a long time ago if I was a mod here.
I'm just trying to stop the bloodshed...
Peace,
Kevin
Just a friendly warning to others on HL2: They are selling it for $14.99 and have 56 in stock at the moment. Remember that they sell store returns and damaged box software. It's highy likely that the keys have been used for installation and to setup steam accounts and therefor cannot be used again by you.Originally posted by: mickeymice
