Just an FYI, this cable is the same as a standard PS/2 cable (keyboard/mouse). You can even use a PS/2 extension cable to extend it. If the reseller won't help you out, you might be able to soldier a new plug on from a donor keyboard. (or have a buddy that can soldier do it. should be cake, it's only 5 or 6 wires)

Got mine today. The veneer on the sub had a couple of scratches at the corners, but the speakers are in otherwise good condition and sound GREAT!

I'm sorry some of you are getting defective speakers. That's the problem with consumerdepot. You can get a perfect set of speakers or you can get a set with a popsicle stick shoved through it. Make sure you read the fine print on returns NOW.

Customer may return defective product to within 14 days from purchase for an EXCHANGE or CONSUMER DEPOT CREDIT . NO REFUNDS (excluding shipping and handling charges), Return shipping to Consumer Depot is at Customer's own expense.

NO returns of any type will be accepted without a RMA number. All permissible returns under this Agreement for credit are subject to a 20% restocking fee. All products for return must be received at Consumer Depot within 14 days from the date of RMA number issuance. RMAs expire in 14 days after they are issued and cannot be extended or re-issued.

After 14 days from purchase, Consumer Depot will not issue an RMA and will refer Customer to the manufacturer for warranty service, if any.

It was posted as a possible risk. Hopefully of the 90+ sets that were available when I posted the deal most did ok with their dice roll.
Even Newegg makes me pay return shipping, but the "store credit" instead of a refund sucks.

Newegg didn't charge me shipping for returning a defective product........

I see at least 3 or 4 people had problems with theirs... have any of you followed up with ConsumerDepot.com yet? I'm curious if you got anywhere with them.

Mine were waiting for me when I got home tonight... I can handle "new/open box" which is how they advertised these, but old, used, filthy, and blown out does not fit that description. There appears to be gum stuck to teh subwoofer enclosure, and a sticky substance spilled across the back of it. Two top corners of the sub seem to indicate that it was dropped, as they are smashed and the veneer pulled off. One of the satellites also has a sticky substance (probably soda pop) spilled on it, and the other satellite sounds like the speaker's blown.

This set was a BestBuy return, one of their pink stickers is on the outside of the box and another was half-removed from the sub enclosure. I also noticed that the serial number on the box does not match the serial number on the enclosure... looks like someone did a fraudulent speaker swap.

I thought I'd check in here before I take it up with ConsumerDepot.com.... anyone?

This is not right....

There should be a customer service # to call on the back of your card. Just call, get a CSR or operator on the line, and ask for the disputes department.

That said, I'd try to take it up with ConsumerDepot.com first, and then go to your band as a second option. In my case, I don't think their return policy is not applicable, since what they sent me was not New/Open box... it was obviously used, and with the serial numbers being different, I might say fraudulent. In your case, I would argue that since they sent you the wrong item, the policy doesn't apply either... their mistake, their responsibility. Good luck, and let us know what happens.

I'll be calling them tomorrow afternoon and will report back here with the results sometime tomorrow night...

yeah my pins were missing but my friend who works ar best buy just hooked me up with some returned klipsch speakers that were lying around. 🙂

still 70 bucks for a set of promedia 2.1s is just awesome.

Well, I called and got someone's voicemail. Left a very brief and polite explanation of what happened and am awaiting a call back. Probably won't happen today.

Has anyone else followed up with them?

Got mine today.......Perfect condition except for a few scuffs on the sub......listening to them now, and they are awesome!!!! I didnt' think it would be easy to beat the z2200, but the klipschs I think sound better, not to mention the overwhelming bass!!! I guess I'm putting the Logitech's in my bedroom!

Quick update. Still haven't gotten a return call from Consumer Depot. So I figure the next step is to both file a BBB complaint and call my bank to process a chargeback... I go to the BBB site, and had never seen a comment like this before. Here is what it says in the file for Consumer Depot:

Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to the volume, pattern and failure to answer complaints.

Specifically, the company has received over 116 complaints alleging that the company sells defective merchandise and failure of the company to respond and resolve complaints with its customers.

The company has not answered these complaints and as of March 15, 2004, BBB no longer processes complaints with this company.

Consumer's may still file complaints with BBB and BBB will forward them to the appropriate regulatory authority for handling.

Just thought some of you might be interested in that. Here's the link to the page:

I wish I'd have checked the BBB file prior to ordering.

The saga continues...

They are true liquidators and you are really rolling the dice buying from them. I bought a "open box" 60Gig IBM Deathstar from them a couple years ago and it was actually a 40gig unit labled 60Gigs from the factory. IBM made good on the RMA warranty but it was a major hassle and took several weeks. I vowed to never buy from them again.

I can't even imagine the hassle of having to RMA speakers. They do have all the proper disclaimers though so if you ignore those it's your own darn fault, lol.

I posted this early and many ignored it.

You buy from this company and YOU ARE ROLLING THE DICE!

They have all the disclaimers in place though so if you feel lucky, roll dem dice! Just don't whine when you roll craps, mmkay?

CAVEAT EMPTOR applies heavily to this outfit. I will not warn again about this outfit. If people are too lazy to read a thread they deserve to RMA speakers, lol.

Good luck to all gamblers!

I saw your post, and the others, and understood there was a risk. I was not "too lazy" to read--I read the entire thread through to the point where I ordered. I also read their policies and disclaimers. This item was described as "New/Open Box: Complete, in Original Packaging with All Accessories." I received a used, damaged, returned set with non-matching serial numbers. Not a New/Open Box. A returned POS. An open box demo or something would have been expected and I'd have been fine with that. What I got is _not_ covered by their "disclaimers" and I consider it outright fraud.

You're right, it was a gamble. But they can't advertise one item and send you another and expect their standard disclaimer to cover it.

I'm not off-topic, and I'm not whining, I am discussing what happened with this experience in case it might help some others. Sticking your tongue out at those of us that did get shafted isn't helping anyone.

Dude, my post wasn't meant to shame you.

I only want Anandtecher's to stop buying from these guys and am trying to be as emphatic as possible.

This consumerdepot place sucks.

This deal sucks and is not hot. Should be locked and woulda been a long time ago if I was a mod here.

I'm just trying to stop the bloodshed...

Peace,

Kevin

Understood, Kevin. I just didn't take kindly to your "too lazy to read" comment and your LOL... Trust me, I won't go there or recommend them to anyone, ever! But it was my first time, and an understood risk.

Now I've just got to try to recover what I can from all this...

Just say "NO" to consumerdepot! 😀

Just a friendly warning to others on HL2: They are selling it for $14.99 and have 56 in stock at the moment. Remember that they sell store returns and damaged box software. It's highy likely that the keys have been used for installation and to setup steam accounts and therefor cannot be used again by you.

On the other hand, this might be a good deal if you want an extra set of media for backup purposes - assuming they send you the correct software and the media is not damaged.

mickeymice, let us know when you actually receive yours and install it.

I just got Half-Life 2 today from them. (I ordered it, but they sent me some different software before.)
What I did was that I sent an e-mail saying that I will dispute the charge if I don't get any information about how to return the wrong item. They never replied, so I got RMA from their website, and I was trying to send it today. But, I just got the FEDEX package even before sending the wrong one back.

To Lanyap,
the box was open condition. I will let you know whether the code works once I get home.

one7, I hope you paid with a credit card. If I were you I would:

1. call (or email) ConsumerDepot and ask them to pay for the return because they obviously did not send what they promised

2. If they refuse, call your credit card and tell them that you received not what you ordered. They may require you to return the defective speakers though. FedEx ground to a business address shouldn't be more that $20 or so. MAKE SURE you use a courier with a tracking number. Once they have your speakers, the credit card company will issue you a refund instantly and they will not care about the "no returns, credit only" policy.
