That's not how it works. If they go up 6 earlier, they would have kicked off and who knows what happens in the ensuing SF drive.

4th and 1 is very convertible. Going up 6 just forces SF to drive for a game-winning TD instead of a game-tying FG. Carroll made the right call.

Kaep would have thrown the pick either way, field position does not affect the score.
